My only comment is on a con on the M4400. I think the pealing paint was due to a bad service tech I don't remember it being a flaw from Dell.

I run Ubuntu 8.10 64 bit and have the same issues. When I leave a complex screen saver going for about 30 mins, when I come back the GPU is 96/97c - that is with dual monitors going too (2nd monitor is 1680x1050) 1st is 1900x1200. I can tell the screen saver is very fast initially, then it really starts to slow down after about 15 mins. I have an antec notebook cooler as well. It helps quite a bit, those figures are sitting on the cooler with it turned off.

I replaced a Latitude 820 and it is a much better machine. I got 3 for our work through DFO, one as a new but cancelled (which has a scratch on the hinge) and 2 refurbs, which look totally brand new.

Btw if you call dell small biz directly, they have access to stuff not listed on the website, that's how I scored these. I think it was about 1500 for a 4 gig machine with 250 gig hard disks for the refurbs (no BT,fingerprint reader or webcam), and 1750 for the new one.

I just got my M4400, loaded the additional 4GB memory module (now I have 8GB), and I've loaded Vista 64-bit, and I'm kind of stuck on the video driver.
Dummy me, when I ordered the computer I thought I would invest a little more and get the BETTER video card: NVIDIA FX1700M instead of the regular FX770. Now I'm completely stuck because they only seem to have the FX770 driver listed on Dell's support site for the M4400 & Vista 64.
I also tried and downloaded a driver version 180.70 from laptopvideo2go.com, but when I run the setup.exe it tells me that no compatible hardware can be found. Arrrrgghhhh !!
Does anyone know where to get a Vista 64 driver for this Quadro FX1700M ?

On paper, the FX1700M is not a better card, only high power usage.

In real life, it's better by 2-3%, not really much.

On our credit card bills, it's worse by $500.

You sir, are balling. Balling mad.

& L2VG drivers aren't for us, your best bet is to talk to Dell with their hardware chat and just install the 770M driver (when I installed it, it said it had support for 1700M).

I thought I saw a post a while back that said you can download the driver off the Nvidia site for the 1700m now.

No, they don't. They have Quadro NVS, not FX.

"For Quadro FX series GPUs, please refer to the website of the specific notebook workstation manufacturer for the latest ISV-certified drivers."
