if she did, then i'd really be worried for you. especially if she had a whip.

anywayyyyyy......its not the colour of the nail polish that matters, its the fact its opaque and lets very little light through.

another substance thats good to use is white correction fluid. yea, the stuff high school kids use on their homework.

its opaque, and its easy to break off if you dont want it anymore

Yeah, that may be a problem. I think "melt" is a little strong but it may remove some of the sheen and maybe unglue the led part from the rest of the plug.... Folks, if you are gonna use nail polish, make sure you choose the right color cause there is no going back! ;)

Try a different peripheral and a different cable in those ports. Make sure that the peripheral you choose is something you know works properly with that computer (even if it's only ever been plugged in the other usb ports).

I have had that happen to me from time to time on other computers. The causes have been either a peripheral being underpowered by the port or a driver issue with that peripheral.

Sometimes, I would have that message when plugging something in the port but then just by removing the peripheral and replugging it solved the issue. I don't think there is anything wrong with your usb ports.

Well stingray, from what I'm seeing in the short time using TX-2,I prefer it,also much, much easier and cleaner to apply using a little blob.....much less scope to make a mess.

I have heard of people using "the blob" method with AS5 but yeah, seems a bit on the thick side to me,I've always spread it.

Ya,personally I wouldn't trust nail polish remover,is a pretty severe thinner ....not that I've had much to do with nail polish or remover  ....just what I've been hearing;)

Dabeer have you gone through the device manager>universal serial bus controller and have a look at the properties and tried to troubleshoot from there?
You could always uninstall your usb devices and the OS should reload them at boot to the correct speed, has worked for me on XP previously when I had the same sort of error caused by plugging in something that wanted more power than the port could supply.

i've got extensive experience with nail polish remover.

used it to set things on fire, damage furniture, remove paint from toy cars, etc etc

much to the annoyance of my sister (whom i stole the nail polish remover from) and the fury of my dad (whose property i damaged)

    yup that's right...
but there are plastic caps (I have seen them in red) and you could cut the cap and leave a band and I think that won't melt

Ok, before I call Dell back, I'm hoping for some input into these issues:

    1. Anyone else having the problem where the USB ports are behaving as USB 1.1 instead of USB 2.0?

    2. What temps should I be seeing at idle? Right now, with it sitting on may lap (careful not to block the vents), doing nothing more than typing this and running HWMonitor, I'm seeing 45C-55C for the CPUs (changing frequently), 50C for the GPU, 40 for the HDD, and 56C-62C for the ACPI, again changing frequently. The system feels quite warm to me. Are these temps normal?

    3. What downclocking behavior is normal? Mine (A11 bios, adapter properties shows driver version 7.15.11.7607) while running Far Cry at 1680x1050 at max settings downclocked at 82C, but remained playable for about 2 hours.

    4. Is the grainy screen problem common among 2CCFL WUXGA screens, or am I just imagining things or being overly picky? I could probably get used to this, but if I look close it definitely seems that, when showing a completely white screen, the neighboring pixels aren't all the same shade of white.

    Thanks in advance.

I can only answer one of your questions...

My 4400 is docked at the moment and running two Samsung 22's. HWMonitor says that the cores are: 39, 38, 42, 42 respectively (I have a quad core). And the GPU is running at 61. I will be using Tuniq TX-2 on the cpu and gpu when I finally get the opportunity.

Note that I am NOT a gamer. I play the occasional game, but I purchased the quad core to support multiple virtual machines. And I LOVE this machine!

ok, so 2.53GHz @ ~40C vs 2.8GHz @ ~45C (I think the higher temp vals are due to a poorly placed sensor) doesn't seem too bad.
