    I bet you were....understandably.
How does your girlfriend feel about other women touching M4400 ;) :D

Same here.I don't think I've ever used more than 50% of the battery run time,so would prefer not to have it hanging out the back......like an ugly thing:D

Wow,really,I reckon the I8600 was the ugliest dell I've owned [blue accent's]
was also the most flexi, creaky notebook I've owned....didn't fall apart though, but I remember being shocked at the noises it made when picking it up [was my first dell after buying a couple of HP's].

I don't know if I would go as far as saying that the M4400 is built like a tank,I would call the M65 I had "tank like".
The M4400 is pretty good mostly, but is let down by excessive use of snaps and tab's,such as,the micro thin screen bezel and the bottom access plate.
The screen protection could be better than my now,non existent rubber bumper's and they need to cast some ribbing inside the magnesium screen housing to stiffen it a bit more,or,maybe just put a decently thick screen bezel that is screwed on to help out in that area.

dont tell dell, but i jumped on my old m4400 before returning it to see how it would hold up. (thats how they demonstrated the latitude tri-metal chassis when it first came out)

it was amazingly rigid....im not sure if it needs any more reinforcing...

You talking about the 8600 or M4400?with the tri metal thing,I had an M60 after my 8600 and it wasn't much different to the 8600 despite the tri-metal advertising.

My M4400 screen bend's when you open it from one corner [not alienware M15x bend extent,if you've ever seen a video of it,that's like 2" difference from one side to the other lol!] or pick it up [screen closed]between the hinges, the M65 didn't,therefore it's not as rigid.....not to mention the palmrest is being used as a stop against the screen bezel because the pathetic little rubber bumper's have gone for an extended holiday.

I'm not saying it's bad [like the M15X] just inferior to the superseded model, which basically had no flex what so ever.

What did the screen panel look like after you jumped on it?
If your really so confident about it's strength, how about posting a video clip of you jumping on it and then the after shot of the screen?.....I'd love to watch it!!ROFL.

actually thats a bloody good idea, but they collected it 2 days ago.

im kicking myself now for not taking a video of some torture tests

i really did jump on it, obviously i dint stomp on it viciously, but light hops....i weigh 55kgs....i opened it expecting to find a crack but it was fine. the right arrow key however got dislodged, but i pushed it back into place. it booted up fine.

    :D

But seriously, I'm a total clutz, and I frequently pick up the laptop upside down (so the vents aren't blocked by my furniture) from the hinge side. I'm worried my fingers will go to the battery rather than to the notebook lid, and then the battery latches will be supporting the full weight of the laptop. I don't think the battery itself will break, just the latches holding it in to the laptop.

I didn't know the m4400 was a chick magnet...I'll have to haul it down to the local hotspot, and bring some spike for the coffee....lol
