Hi Jenus, I have the wuxga with its ultrasharp resolution (glare). Now as I have it in front of me, I am nicely surprised. It is very sharp (feels much better compared to my really weared-off crt) and the native text although is small, but still easy to read for me. Of course, this is very subjective point of view i just can not say how would it appear to you.
If You will have vista on-board, the system lets rescale the fonts (haven't need to use it yet, so please let anybody correct me if said something wrong;-). Then if You switch from an external display to a notebook, that could mean that your eyes will be placed more closely to the display than used to be.

Here You can find some comparations between the different resolutions: http://www.notebookcheck.net/DPI-Fineness-of-Displays.1310.0.html

If your resolution is WUXGA (1920x1200) You have either the 2CCFL or the RGB LED, there are no CCFL or WLED WUXGA screens. Seeing your hardware-id yours is the 2CCFL just like my screen. To give that an extra check turn up the brightness of your screen to a 100%.....there will probably be a clearly lighter area at the bottom of your screen (check this with a black desktop)

Besides that, you know what you ordered, dont you?

Not so fast. I ordered the RGBLED and I have the same id: SEC5443.

Some people with the M6400 Covet (only comes with E2E RGBLED, I believe) have the same id. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=325461

Other have reported the matte wxga to have the same id. http://www.xps-forum.de/thread.php?postid=139668&sid=466b12ac0d8a65eba183347e2f820bc8#post139668

I do not get the results you describe. I have also followed another poster's advice in watching what happens when I turn the brightness all the way down or all the way up quickly with a light colored background. The results are that the color changes slightly for a moment before equalizing again. The suggestion was that this was due to the red, green, and blue led's adjusting their brightness at slightly different rates.

I don't know - makes sense. But I don't have another m4400 here to compare with.

Dell sure doesn't like to make it easy.

I don't know about the member emte, but I ordered mine from the delloutlet and I just don't quite trust that these guys get it right all the time. I little confirmation doesn't hurt. Not to say I don't love my screen, whatever it is.

Ah you're right indeed, i remember the hardware-id's just causing more confusion. Especially if 17" screens report the same id, should be impossible really.

And you shouldn't get the results i describe but indeed the ones you mention instead. The lighter area goes with the 2CCFL and the color change is what seems to happen with the RGB LED. So far these are pretty much the only ways of testing it then.
Dell should get their facts straight!! lol

well, you should be able to see the difference betweeen the rgb led and 2ccfl. just look at the colors on the scren (especially the rgb edges, so pure red eg.).

if the colors are really vivid/full/intense you've the rgb led.

As long as you have something to compare to that should be ok.

Adjusting the brightness and seeing if the colors temporarily shift seems to be one way to know for sure.

    This is what I experience:

When going from the highest brightness to the lowest when viewing this webpage, for example, the color shifts to a warmer tone for a second or so, then the blues kick back in and it is normal. It is harder to tell when going from dim to bright.

    @Xirurg,

Gotta keep looking everyday. Dell outlet refreshes their inventory at midnight CST. Its definitely a challenge to find what you want. Before deciding on the m4400, I was set on the m6400. But the only systems with 1 gig GPU I could find had the wxga screen. A combination I don't quite understand.

To say the least, the searching a navigation of the outlet site leaves much to be desired.
