Precision M4600 - Dual Core - 4 DIMM RAM???

    My pad just got delivered. I am going to properly repaste again and see what happens. Fingers crossed...

    the 0.5mm pads are too thin. IMO, you should double them up or get the 1mm pads. The stock pads that come with the 5870 are 1mm

    Dellienware, i've read through the thread and the advice given is good, but I think the pads aren't causing your high temps. Its the paste and the contact between the CPU die and copper plate on the heatsink

    AS5 is not a good paste because it requires very good contact before it works well. In situations where you only get moderate to good contact, AS5 will suffer bad.

    To take this out of play, you should get a paste that works well with only moderate contact. Personally, I use Prolima-tech PK-1 on both CPU and GPU to outstanding results

    Here is a summary of all the popular pastes in 2011. you'll notice that IC Diamond isn't part of the review because it has an extremely high polishing affect that alters the heatsink

    I haven't done this myself (yet). but i have read somwhere that you can use AS5 on the die and instead of pads you can use a thick paste like MX-4 on the memory chips, and according to the poster of that tread, that should be the ideal situation resulting in a 10-20 °C drop

    so repasting using spread method + 0.5mm pad made a huge different. With overclock and running furmark the temp max is pretty much 85-87. when playing battlefield, 85 and under.

    i did realize that the corners of the die were not covered. so spread method really does work well.

    is there a way to check the temperature of the video ram?

    HWInfo64. Gives temps of the shaders, gpu core, memory ect.

    Shader is the one to watch out for.

    what should it be like the maximum safe temp for those temperatures?

    GPU's are pretty heat resistant (up to 120°C), but i wouldn't wanna go over 95°C

    Yea I was more worried about vram failure since they share the same heatsink... not sure how sturdy Hynix stuff is..

    So I will by flying international tomorrow and I am planning on taking my R2 with me. But I was wondering if I can use the 240w brick on the airplane. The economy seats have the outlet, but I am not sure if they have "full power" like our houses do. If you know what i mean...

    I am sure the flight attendance wont have any idea so please tell me if it would be safe for both the airplane and my R2 to do this. I am planning on gaming so it would probably be using close to full 240w.
