Those of you looking for a temperature monitor for the M6400:

    Someone sent me this:
    HWMonitor64 Download Link
NOTE: it's 64 bit! There might be a 32 bit version too.

It monitored individual cores of my CPU as well as chipset and GPU temps and seemed to produce reasonable results for me.

I have a suspicion that the M6400 might be suffering from bad graphics drivers. My crashes seem to be related to the power saving mode on the PCI-Express bus but it's been very hard to track down for sure. Hopefully soon there will be new Dell versions of the Quadro drivers.

Did you try uninstalling this unknown device - and then letting windows find the driver for it? Just a suggestion.

Yes I did, but it just quietly adds it back in as an Unknown Device, and doesn't even prompt me with a wizard to add hardware, etc.
The thing that I'm suspicious of is the two entries under the "BlueTooth Radios" tree branch: "Dell Wireless Bluetooth 410 device" and "Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator". I don't think the second entry is actually the driver for the UWB bluetooth. Can you check to see if these are the exact same entries you have under your "Bluetooth Radios" ?

OK, I was able to locate the 32-bit driver here:
    http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php

Now my only remaining question would be what temp range should be considered "Normal" for the CPU and GPU. I have the Quad Q9300 CPU, and the NVIDIA Quadro FX3700M GPU. I am running about 32 - 38C on the CPU's, and 39C on the GPU.

Just FYI, a very kind soul has stepped forward and provided me the solution to my "Unknown Device" problem, and my machine is clean and happy!
Here is the raw information given, for those of you who decide to load Vista from scratch, YOU WILL NEED THIS because it is NOT on the M6400 drivers page...
    Navigate to this link: http://support.dell.com/support/dow...-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=5&fileid=273063

I found this by expanding the Network node from the tree on the drive page, and click on "Wireless 410 BT+UWB Minicard." Now select "Other Versions" link. Then you will see a link for "Dell Wireless 410BT+UWB Minicard, v.SSP1.4.20.7, A01 (Release Date 11/3/2008). That is the app and driver for PID 8149.

Funny thing is, when you go to the linked page and click on the "Other Versions" link and try to download the "A01" version, it just yanks you back to the page you came from. However, the driver works just fine anyway.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU !!!!!!

Hey you guys should edit the email address out of those posts before spam crawling bots grab them.

That's how my nice "my name" @ "my domain" address I made ended up unusable. :(

I am sending mine back for a full refund. This machine has the potential to kick major . It has impecable build quality, but . . .

The video problem I am having with 3ds Max 2009 Design is leaving it unusable.
It uses up almost all the memory (8G) for a simply scene and leaves the computer almost in an unusable state.
I am not sure where the certification went into this machine as I nor the Tech today can find it and the video card is not listed as qualified to run it on Autodesk's site.

So I would rather get back the money and wait for 6mths for a smooth running, quality computer. This computer comes close. It is very fast.
It is a shame they released the M6400 to soonand seemingly the M4400.
I also do not see how it is considered a Workstation Precision when it cannot run Max and apparently Maya either in a productive manner.

I wish everyone luck with theirs. I may try again later.
