It came back so I tried your suggestion and will see how it is.
Intel 5300 agn now set to 802.11 b/g.

Anyone else done this to get rid of faint high-pitch pulse noise?

Yes - I have been using the 90W adapter that came with a D820 with it. It seems to work fine (once I've disabled the "this will run slower and charge the battery slower" warnings).

Again - I'd like to know what it down clocks in such an event.

Not sure if temp sensor and fans are working okay.
I have nothing installed except OS. No background activity. Machine is either idle or minor web browsing and is very quiet for ~2mins then a strong woosh sound for ~30sec as the fans activate. Keeps on doing this: quiet-woosh-quiet-etc. Does even when not in use/idle.
    Is this standard?
Is there a way to manually control fans so that I can hear the different fan settings?

210W down to 90W and it still works and recharges the battery.
    Impressive.

210W looks like overkill. Wonder if this 210W AC adaptor was made for something else.

How does one find the screen manufacturer/specs. Looked in the usual places and found only FX3700M.

Also I don't use the smartcard and it was not an option to not have it.
    What power does it use?
Can it be permanently set to be powered off?

By the way my right hand rests to the right of the trackpad which means it sits on top of the smartcard and every so often there is a click from the smartcard area. Anyone else notice this?
Its as if my hand is causing the frame to flex down and hit something making a click noise.

Yes, the 210W is overkill - when I plugged the 90W adapter in initially it flashed up a warning saying "blah blah..slower...blah blah..longer to recharge...blah...please plug in an adaptor of at least 130W" - so it looks like the draw on mine at least is 130W max (QX9300, FX2700M)

    Hi there,

So with the 90W adapter it still charges fine, but downclocks the m6400 while it charges? Or it just takes longer to charge? Would this be effecting the battery at all?

    Regards,
    Simon

It charges, but takes longer to do so. Also the battery hotkey thingy changes its function - with a 210W adaptor it switches between "Fast charge" and "slow charge" - but with the 90W adaptor it switches between "slow charge" and "charging disabled".

FWIW, Blackcat PCs in England sell the 90W adaptors for about £30.

According to the Reference Guide the pixel size of the
WXGA+ is 0,191 mm and the
WUXGA is 0,225 mm which is false, probably the power consumption is false aswell.

Or the RGB LED consumes 3x the power of a normal LED screen (3x 5W)...
