    Thanks.

Once I sort out the glitches and decide to keep my system then I'll probably buy one 130W (M4400).

The continual quiet-woosh fan cycle is high on my list of dislikes.

My preference, in this case, is that the guide has the wrong RGB LED power rating :)

Wow, that's some expensive memory. Sure am glad I don't need that much. And Jersey's what, the most expensive State in the Union @ 7%. Though I'm in Costa Rica most all the time that's where I get mail up there. And deliveries. Then I have CR taxes and if I'm not careful the taxes end up more or equal to the computer. Which really sucks now that I think of it. Dell Costa Rica doesn't even sell a m6400 Covet.

18k gui I think is the name of a 'for Dells only' temp. and fan control program that's always worked great for me. When I first got my m6300 I got to thinking the fans weren't working because they never made any noise. With 18Kgui you can force them on to high and sure enough they worked, but it sounded like maybe it was the first time they'd ever been on high. A bit of stuttering for a minute or so before they smoothed out and ran well. I changed the on/off temps a bit and started to hear them cycle regularly, though only short bursts of high speed. Seconds at most.

Why is 2 DIMMS with 4GB more expensive than 4 DIMMS with 4GB? It seems the more DIMMS the better so I'm curious for the (small) price difference in what would seem to be the wrong direction.

Now that I'm using it more, when the system is more active (disk defrag) the fan stays on low and is fine.

Under very low load it switchs from off-high-off-high and is real irritating. Silence-woosh-silence-woosh-

    I'll not finding a download site for 18Kgui ...

Does 18Kgui do fan control with Vista 64?

When rebooting or shut down my system hangs saying "logging off". I've waited for 40mins and eventually had to use a hard power off.

Doesn't happen all the time ~50%.

What should I look for to solve this problem?

18kfangui can be downloaded from http://www.diefer.de/i8kfan/ It only lists up to the M90 series Precision but I used it on the m6300 and it worked fine. It'll display rpm of both fans and you really can control everything, or let the program manage it for you, which is advisible if you're not sure what you're doing because it really gives you full control, like if you accidently tell it to turn all the fans off, that's exactly what it will do. As for whether it works with Vista, a quick look at the page just said it works with all 'Windows' systems and also Linux. The download site lists an 18kfangui forum link where I imagine you can find out about Vista. A great program if it works for you. Please inform if it does.
