Suggest - if you haven't done so already - clean install. Make sure that you follow "EXACTLY" the prescribed order for installing the drivers.

I've had my M6400 going on 3 months - I suffered a total of 3 BSODs and haven't had one in almost 2 months.

My biggest peeve is that when I unplug my USB mouse - the touchpad remains inactive. It is also inactive if I boot without it as well - I get the notification that a USB mouse was detected - yet none was plugged in.

I seem to have a problem with connecting BT mice. I use a Microsoft Laser 5000 and I constantly have to fight that thing to make it work, and so does another guy in the office with the Dell 410 BT card. Anybody else running into that?

Quick question - A few months ago I purchased the M6400 - but I had to return it becuase it could not support my display (30inch screen which need dual DVI).
At the time someone from DELL suggested there would be a displayport to dual link DVI dongle made available in december - we are now in February and I am pretty sure Dell has not come up with such a dongle.
So my question is - is there a docking station I could use the would output dual link DVI? If not - is there such a dongle available? If not - what other laptop exist that would have 4 RAM slot (this is the only thing I care about really about the M6400) and that would output DVI signal?

    Thank you so much,

PS: I woud have like to keep the M6400 but I realized that I care more about a 30" display than the laptop - so if I have to choose between the two the display will win.

I'm on a clean install.. I installed the drivers in order as well. I believe the irq_not_equal_or_less BSOD is a hardware / driver problem. Does windows vista automatically replace drivers with what it "thinks" are better by itself?

The dongle you showed is for single link DVI - it is only good up to 1920*1200. Therefore it does not work for a 30" display.

This all display port thing is a big mess when you have a high resolution monitor. The adapter from Apple is 100$ (which i don't mind) but I am not sure it actually works well (a lot of complia on the web) and it is only for mini display port - not regular size display port.

In general, I'd decline the Windows Update improvements for hardware drivers. Going back a long way, coming from IBM(tm) ThinkPad world, the MS drivers occasionally break working OEM drivers. Most notably, the Intel networking ones.

    Hi All,

I have a quick question I was hoping the group could help with. Today I took delivery of my M6400 and from what I can tell Dell neglected to install the requested WUXGA RGB-LED Edge2Edge display (there is no glass plate that extends to the margin like I was envisioning). The system BIOS info lists the display as a "Wide UXGA 1920x1200" display, but how can I tell if this is an LCD display or simply the non-E2E RGB-LED display (from what I can find on the website both could be WUXGA 1920x1200)? In all honesty the display looks pretty good...but I just want to be sure I know which one I have installed so that I can get Dell to re-invoice me for what was actually installed. The paperwork lists the E2E display, but that doesn't mean that is what made it into the machine. Are the non-E2E and E2E RGB-LED displays otherwise the same?

Also, the machine is configured with 2x256 GB SSD drives in a RAID 0 configuration. It seems to 'stutter' as it makes the initial XP startup chime. I am guessing this is a software issue related to all the programs trying to load at startup...but I was curious if anyone thought this could be indicative of a deeper issue or had similar experiences?

Finally, on the bottom of the machine there is the connection for a laptop stand or docking station...but no cover of any kind over the port. Is this indeed how all the machines are equipped...or am I missing some sort of cover for the port (it seems odd that you would leave them completely exposed)?

    Thanks for any ideas!

Are you sure you ordered the edge to edge RGB screen?, there is a normal matt version of the RGB screen!

The stutter was a driver problem i believe, do a search on the forum for that.

as for your docking port connector, it does indeed come with NO cover!
