Sorry, but if L4D dies on your PC and mine is fine with these drivers, I think I'm gonna pass. Thanks for the tip though.

L4D died with all other drivers I tried too (I tried alot from stock 176.44, to the newest 185.20). It seems to have another issue. I stick with 179.44 because I get the highest frames per seconds in GTA 4 and it's a certified driver, so I don't have to change the driver when I go back to work.

Then take off that glass ! :D

I believe the only difference between the E2E RGB-LED and the normal RGB-LED is the glass plate (that makes it an expensive piece of glass, even if it does increase contrast).

There aren't many 17' WUXGA RGB-LED screen available on the market, so they both must use the same LP171WU5 by LG.
Owners of those 2 screens could confirm model, please ?

Mine (details in sig) will come next week. It has the non-glossy RGBLED and I'll let you know about the screen model.

On a sidenote should I do a clean install anyway, or only if problems arise? Is there a consensus on the matter?

The model number will not help. There's only 1 RGB-LED screen from LG available at the moment. So HP and Dell probably use the same screen, but all screens (Dell --> HP) have different numbers.

Perhaps you can take some pics of your screen, than we can compare. I can't remove the glass plate, because it's not just a bezel. It's a complete cover and I don't know if I can replace it by a bezel (some guys from Dell told me it's not possible). When I exchanged my display because of a dead pixel, the Dell guy brought a complete display (incl. cover and glassplate) and not only the screen, like they normaly do when you get a screen replacement)...

I saw some pics of the HP dreamcolor screen, and it shows the typical matte behaviour (black is some kind of grey and the colors looks a bit washed out due to the matte coating). That's exactly what I didn't want, and why I ordered the E2E screen.

New WUXGA Mac Book Pro use that LP171WU5 by LG too. Actually I assume they all use the same screen (Dell, HP & Mac...) for 17' WUXGA RGB-LED.

But the new 17" MacBook Pro only has a color gamut of 72% (apple says 60% more than standard --> 45% * 1,6 = 72%).

Perhaps it's because they don't use RGB-LEDs to get better battery life.

I would do a clean install right off the bat, but I'm quite picky.

Yus - I'd only install them if you are having issues.
My previously stable M6400 became a BSOD nightmare after installing the latest fx2700m driver. Although I did install the Vista Wireless feature pack (also available at the dell site) at the same time - so it could have been either. I've reverted to a previous image now - and all is stable again.
