Which BT card do you have? Just get the latest drivers from the Dell site, worked for me.

right-click, select properties, there you can check both administrator and compatibility.

I have the 370 card but can't give an opinion because I've never had any use for it. But I do have a question. How do you turn off the light in the upper left of the keyboard? I'm pretty sure I have all the bluetooth stuff turned off or disabled but the light is driving me nuts. Something must be running that I don't know about. And the only Google answers involve complicated codes and registry tricks that there must be an easier way. Anybody know what that might be?

switch BT off in BIOS maybe? That should do it and if not, you can always take the whole card out....about as easy as uninstalling RAM

I'd like some advice on whether to buy the Covet.

I have been following this thread for quite some time now, and it appears that the Covet has many problems. I am not sure if there is a selection effect here in the sense that only the complainers are posting.

I would like a machine that is much faster than what I have now: D830, T7700 (2.4 GHz), 4GB RAM, 7200RPM 160GB hard drive.

I was thinking that the Covet should be quite a bit faster. I am guessing that I would get the QX9300 quad core and also install two Intel X25-M SSDs in RAID0 with 16GB RAM, running Windows Server 2008x64.

My problem is that the problems with this machine sound horrific.

Has anybody run this machine, similarly configured to what I desire? If so, are there problems?

    Am I over-worrying?

I, like you, wondered if I should get the M6400. I ordered last year and the first two machines were problems out the box. Both were returned and Dell was outstanding it its survice. Yes a big waste of time for me, but I believe the kinks are now dealt with. My 3rd machine, also out the box, has been no problem. There is nothing that comes close to the combination of the M6400's power, weight, features, and very quiet.

From my experience with a similiarly equipped (without 16GB RAM) Covet is that you shouldn't 'worry' about computers at all. They're just machines after all. But I understand the question and have had 0 problems with it in the 4 months I've had it. Most of the problems, and I've also been following this for awhile, seem to afflict the 64 bit Vista machines and the problems aren't the hardware or build. They seem to be software related. But having had no problems I also must point out that's just my general opinion and it covers only my machine and the most frequent stuff I've read. Running 32 bit XP my Covet has been rock solid in all respects. I also had Vista installed on the second drive and aside from being Vista gave me no problems either. It was my first contact with Vista and I was surprised at the performance. The Covet is overpriced since your paying a few hundred bucks for an orange case which is the only difference from the silver 6400. The Covet just has upgraded hardware that is also available on the other. Mine priced out at around $5600 on the Dell page but I bought what appears to be a brand new one, loaded with everything for $2400. It was my first experience buying 'refurbished' and I'm still amazed at what they sent me. I think it's a well thought out and well built computer. Sitting next to my Toshiba P305 Sattelite the Toshiba looks and feels like a cheap piece of junk. It's also a decent machine but the Precision is a different breed of machine. "horrific" problems? Take a chill pill and realize that Dell is a huge company and puts out a lemon now and then like all others. And forums usually are top heavy with people looking for solutions to problems. Be sure to get the 'complete care' warranty and let Dell worry if it breaks. I'd hold off on the 16gig RAM for a year or two until the price gets realistic.

    Hello!
I plan on buying a M6400 from someone and I want to verify if the lcd is LED backlight.
This is the link to specs on dell site.
Does 1 LCD BACK COVER : SILVER EDGE TO EDGE mean that it is LED?

I am not sure if it have been solved or not but any way this is the solution for it.

"driver (R197537) for the radio control on the bluetooth chip. This is different than the bluetooth driver (R197513)
For future reference, here's the link to that driver:

    http://ftp.us.dell.com/network/R197537.EXE

    Hope this helps someone"

this was in a blog I tried it and it works fine.

    here is the original article

    I repalaced a D820 and a Precision P380 desktop with my M6400. Spec is QX9300 quad core, FX2700m and 16Gb RAM. I don't run SSDs, but I do have 2 250GB 7200rpm disks as RAID 0.

It is blindingly fast. I had a problem with a dead GPU 2 weeks that took Dell a few attempt to diagnose - and that was made worse by the GPU that they replaced it with being faulty. I am more than happy with the M6400 though and would recommend it to any person in need of serious computing power.

Can anybody confirm this to me. Please enter your service tag in the dell site and check(if you have a LED display) if it says the same thing.
