That's excellent temps...those CPUs can go upto 70-80c.
I bet you it's not a quad core you have :)

Oh right! Yeah its a Core2Duo T9400 2.5Ghz - that's quite a temperature range the CPU's can handle, I'd hate to touch the chasis of a machine that had its CPU around 80c!

    Veni :)

The quad in my one can go upto 70c if I use prime to push it...but it's able for that...
Can't use ik8fangui since it doesn't play nice with x64bit

    @Airblazer:

Just noticed you have 16gb of ram in your system, how much did that set you back?

You just open the main page, click options and in the tabs go to the temprature control one (second from left) and enable temp. control for CPU, GPU, chipset and memory. And as far as I know 40 degrees isn't hot at all, it's just over 100 farenheit and that's where my QX9300 usually sits under normal use. I really have no idea what a 'normal' temp. is or if one even exists but I do know my temps are considerably lower than some I've seen posted. And body temp. is 37 degrees Celsius so I wouldn't be too worried about it.

Since you didn't know where to set the temps. for the GPU maybe you also don't know you can have all the the temps and fan status displayed in the task bar. There's lots of tabs to go through but it's pretty straight forward. I have mine set to Automatic Fan Control where you set the temps where the fans come on and the temps when they go off.

    Hi Airblazer,

I appear to have the same h/w setup as you, but have issues with the display dimming down to an unusable level when the nvidia driver is installed.

Could you have a look at the thread:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=410659
and comment on what monitor driver and lcd panel nvidia and device manager report for you? Did you see this issue, maybe install some other driver that I haven't come across?

    Many Thanks, Paul.

    ok

i'm new here and need some logic explained to me. I am not computer savy at all so easy on the vernacular.

i just received my refurbished, yet still shiny nice and new M6400 covert.

State of the Art technology ....or so i thought!!!

    128gig SSD
    64bit
    Quad 2.53 core
    8gig RAM
    and...
    1GIG Nvidia graphics card

Awesome, until i realize that the state of the art graphics card has one very c1999's VGA slot, and not 2 DVI slots like it supposed to? What gives?

I am a photographer who uses an external monitor with my laptop for dual screen, and was psyched to get a 2009 computer with DVI port so i could view 1900x1200 digital resolution.

    Man i am peeved,

    Solutions, advise, comments, work arounds???

I am this close . to sending it back and going to the mac store (oh man my best bud would be rolling on the floor right now)

Stand easy - really nothing to worry about :)

The m6400 has a display port on the side next to the vga connector - this can be converted with a small dongle which Dell sells (and probably others too) to DVI for monitors that require it. Newer monitors are now coming out with display ports as standard. It's actually a better smaller locking connector.

You can also connect with the vga port at the same time - if three displays is what you are after!

The docking bases have vga, 2x dvi and 2x display port built in.

I'm into astrophotography and the covert's rgb led backlit lcd looks to be really good - once calibrated. The Mac can't compete with that.

    Cheers, Paul.
