Have verified with at least a few other Covet owners they have glossy screens. The sales reps are seeing the absence of the word "TrueLife" and assuming it is matte.

One of them even checked with their manager, because I said I was pretty sure.

One of them looked at the YouTube M6400 Covet video, at the specific timecodes I mentioned showed glossy reflections, and said "No that looks like a matte screen, you're seeing a video artifact related to the lighting and the table."

    (wow, Dell... wow.)

I'll report when mine comes in if it is better or worse than the HP 8710. I wonder if it is a drawback to having the backlit keyboard (which is worth a lot to me, as with a glossy screen, I will have to work in the dark. :( )

The 8710 had a small amount of flex, mostly around the numeric pad. It just gave a little bit when pressed upon. To the point you can feel it, but can't really see it visually.

Maybe it's supposed to flex? Like how a really, really drunk guy fares better in a fight or a car crash than if he was sober, because he flops around instead of resisting the blows? :D

Can I declare the RAID0 array in my laptop as the master drive, to be mirrored to an external recovery drive? Anybody know? Essentially, this would be kind of like creating a RAID10 array, I guess...

    Hey everyone.
For the record on order to delivery times.

    I ordered a covet on Nov 5th.
    Estimated ship date Dec 1.
Estimated day of delivery was Dec 4 or 5.
Covet was delivered today on Nov 17th.

    Way sooner than I thought!

    Interesting.

My order date was Nov. 3rd
    Est. Ship date: Nov. 25
Est. Deliver Date: Nov. 28 or Dec. 1
Covet still "In Production" as of today, and Customer Service is still just quoting me the original dates.

Who did you have to bribe? ;)

FYI -- The NVIDIA FX3700's are back ordered.
The Intel Quad Core QX9300 is also back ordered.

Got a call from Dell this afternoon -- asking if I wanted to change my order to what they have in stock. Told them NO.

Ask -- and was told -- THERE is NO ETA on the back ordered components.

So will just keep on waiting....

The rep did say that she would call when the parts arrive with a revised estimated ship date. We shall see.

My original order date was 11/3 with an estimated ship date of 11/25

    I got those same things.
    So I either
    1. got lucky
    2. got the wrong parts
    3. got a break for a change - if you knew what Ive been through trying to have a nice new laptop in the past year and 3 months, youd say this early delivery was quite deserved. ;)

Its at home and Im at work so I havent seen it yet for verification of parts.

and by the way, I cannot pay attention to anything here at work knowing that is sitting at home waiting for me.
I was going to go home and get it but a busy days events prohibited me from doing that.

    Rough day.

Even though it's my personal laptop (for my side biz), I still shipped it to my work. And I've got an extra 4GB of RAM sitting in my desk drawer ready for install when it ever gets here.

At this point though, I think I'll have to trade in the DDR3 for DDR8, a holographic display, and a 128-bit OS by the time it gets here.

yeah, with my last laptop fiasco - (which was 3 builds of an alienware m9750) all having the SAME problem, I gave up - but part of the pain was that I had it shipped to work.
2 out of the 3 shipments went via Fed Ex Home service.
Delivery date ended up being a Saturday both times so I had to drive into work on a Saturday just to get it - only to find out Fed Ex decided NOT to deliver it that day because it was a "business address" and it was a "home" service. The second time, I called them ahead of time to tell them to deliver it cause Id BE THERE at the location, they still didnt do it when it came down to it. I had to pick it up from Fed Ex myself both times.

So I gave up giving my business address for a laptop delivery.
