Doesn't matter one way or another. Just don't pull out the battery after you have pulled at least one of the plugs, and don't pull out any of the plugs after you have taken out the battery. Let us know if you have more questions... :p

P.S.: Of course, once the OS is shut down and the laptop turned off, feel free to pull plugs and batteries as often and in any order you want.

Dell Precision M6400 Covet and it's RAID controller
My question is: Is there in that machine a HARDWARE RAID controller?

The reason why I am asking it, because I am using now Norton Save & Restore for backup and I've read that NSNR does'nt support software raid.
The other reason is, that I've ordered a Covet. It arrives around mid December 2008.

Well mine shipped yesterday (Saturday), and the order status page says arrives Tues, while the notification email says tomorrow. So who even knows anymore, seems so random. Spent 3 days in Boxing, not counting Thanksgiving. But the official ETA was the 8th, so at least its a week early.

    Still no answer. Here again.

Is there a M6400 specific manual? I need to know which status light is for which purpose.

    WD Scorpio Black HD
    With free-fall sensor
    250 GB or 320GB, 3 Gb/s, 16 MB Cache, 7200 RPM
    Model # for 250GB: WD2500BJKT

    Or

    Seagate Momentus 7200.3 HD
    With free-fall sensor/G-Force
    250 GB or 320GB, 3 Gb/s, 16 MB Cache, 7200 RPM
    Model # for 250GB: ST9250421ASG

The WD has slightly better power usage.
    The Seagate slightly better performance.

Could also wait for 500GB 7200rpm HDs which should have about 20% improved performance due to higher memory density. Two of these RAID 0 ~150 MB/s write, ~200 MB/s read.

Agreed as per my several previous posts. My comment was referring to not being able to order this configure through Dell for the M6400 (see previous posts).
