Dell has NEVER assembled notebooks in the US. They are assembled in Malaysia and Ireland. They are then sent - by the plane load to TN - where they then sent FedEx to the recipients.

Only desktops are mfg in the US.

OK, good. At least they are keeping half of the jobs in the U.S.

SMckenna, it is a bios option. I'll try it again tonight to see if that was what caused it.

    Some info for UK owners:
DABS is doing official 2GB Crucial memory stick for this machine at ~£32.50. I've just bought 4GB (2x2GB) to take my machine up to 8GB for £65. Not too bad a price, especially considering the Crucial site is charging £50 for one stick.

Very intriguing. What's the other setting besides 'performance'? Maybe to save power on the hard drives, but run slower?

Does anyone know where I can find documentation on the BIOS for the M6400? I just looked at the on-line docs for the M6400, and the manual doesn't seem to cover the BIOS!

Let me guess: Just enough are made in the U.S. to barely keep the right to have an American flag pole in the front of the plant in Texas.

Yay, got my shipping email yesterday. Surprised to see it was shipped on a Sunday. Anyway, I am suppose to get it tomorrow. My estimated ship date was 12/17, so hopefully this is good news for people still waiting.

I ordered two of the WD 320GB BJKT drives yesterday, so will look forward to swapping them in. Hopefully, I won't run into too many of the issues discussed here.

No doubt. My XPS desktop a couple years back came from the Philippines I think, when I was living in Australia. Arrived really fast. My Fedex track page here says the Covet was picked up in Reno NV?

Yours must have been part of the batch they had to smuggle into the U.S. under the Mexico border using their quarter-mile "laptop" tunnel. :)
