I noticed that the old 160GB drives were set up by Dell with 128K blocks, so I used the same for the SSD's. I think the default value was only a tiny 4K block, so I changed it to 128K. It seems to be working well.

Holy crapola smckenna. I guess SSD for the win, didn't think it'd make that much of a difference. Only problem for me is my single 160GB HD is already nearly full of software and I haven't even done much yet.. get a 500GB 2nd drive, or switch this one to 2nd bay and get single SSD, or get huge eSata external, what to do, so many options...

Oh btw I'm also 5.9 across the board, except my 160GB HD is 5.8, so it makes my overall score 5.8 since it goes by lowest apparently.

Definitely toss the non-essentials off to an external e-SATA drive and throttle up some SSD's! The e-SATA interface is so fast you can't go wrong (as long as you don't need to carry all those files with you all the time).

i will never understand why microsoft chose 5.9 as the highest score..the t9400 dual core only gets a 5.4, guess i'll have to upgrade when the quad extremes get a little cheaper.

This thing does run a bit hot, though. At least that is to say that it was blowing out a fair amount of heat from both vents in the back as I installed all my development software all day today. I think I'm going to go ahead and download the NVIDIA utility to monitor the core temps and see how they are doing under load.

I hope all you new owners are enjoying your machines :)

Quick question: Anyone know if there is a way to turn off the touchstick buttons? (The ones just above the touchpad and below the touchstick) I've accidentally hit one of these buttons on quite a few occasions when typing and end up inserting text at the place the cursor was previously :)

    Yes.
    Control panel...(classic view)..mouse...device select.

Switch on or off the bits that you don't want to use.

    Thanks Manic.

Anyone tried the headphone quality fix I posted? I can't believe that something so simple would change the quality so drastically! (For those who missed it, start playing a CD or suchlike whilst listening through headphones, go to control panel, sounds etc and find the mute PC speaker option. Tick it. Suddenly you'll have more bass on your headphone channel. Bizarre! )
