Just chekced my BIOS and the setting for SATA is set to AHCI - that is the only place I could find the AHCI setting. (System Config > SATA Operation)

I left the partitions alone that came with the machine and just formatted the partition that originally had Win7Pro (32bit) on it before getting started with a clean install. If I look at Disk Manager I see:
    204MB Healthy OEM Partition
    750MB NTFS RECOVERY Partition
    118GB C: Partition
They are all part of Disc 0 in the abvoe order.

    Thanks for your help.
    Regards,
    Matt

No issues with IRRT + Intel's Matrix Storage driver here.

    I get the following -

I re-ran the test without changing anything and now get 7.7,7.2,6.4,6.4,7.0 so I guess it fixed itself.

Still not sure what I need to install to get the pretty screen overlays when I use Fn keys to adjust brightness and sound via the keyboard though - anyone know which one I need to install on x64?

DCP system manager....just that, not connection manager or anything else.

Quick question about M4400 bios settings (ver. A19) - Does the "SATA Operations - IRRT" choice have any advantages? Would it be better to stay with the typical "AHCI" choice? Thanks

Did you install the IMSM driver through device manager? It sounds like you maybe only updated the IMSM application and not the driver, they are separate files. You have to go to device manager>IDE ATA/ATAPI-controllers, right-click on the ICH9M>update> choose "have disk" and browse to the iastor file. It should be updated then.

And on Dell support. How is it possible to end the call with them not being able to help you? They should give at least an option how to continue i think. If their suggestions don't work they should offer to send someone by to have a look.

after running win7 x64 for several months now, i can say my experience has been great. feels really solid and snappy.

think i'll be keeping my M4400 as my main machine for quite some time, probably with an SSD upgrade sometime soon.

LPTP: any news on a cheap quadcore? both of us have the T9600, but for some of my applications its not enough. im a bit worried the cost of the core 2 quads will rise as they become rarer. what do you think?

Haven't really been looking. I'm getting an SSD first and maybe later a Quad. At rendertime the quad would be handy but for other purposes i'll first see what i gain with the SSD.
You might have a point with the quads getting more expensive but i'm not sure, wouldn't that be the same regular C2D's then? In the past i haven't been watching price development for parts close enough to know if that actually happens when new platforms emerge....anyone?
