I'm happy to have found this thread. I have been installing Windows 7 64 on my M4400 in the holidays, and it's comforting to know that I don't have to stress around installing every single Dell driver.

I got two questions I hope you can answer:

My Device Manager reports that there are no drivers for something called the Broadcom USH. What is that, and which driver do I need?

I haven't installed any of the chipset drivers (get an error message when I try), and there's something about the word chipset drivers that makes me think they could be important. Are they?

    Thanks!

Yes they are important, they should be installed first actually, both the Intel and Ricoh drivers. What exactly does the message say?

The Broadcom USH is for your fingerprint reader. You have to install the security suite to make it work. Personally i'm not using it because when i tried the software was completely crap and it was way too much hassle to make it work and logging in through FP took more steps than through simple password.

am i the only one experiencing a long delay occasionally when using the finger print reader to log on?

swipe fingerprint>logo becomes smaller>wait about 1 minute> welcome wording appears

    lptp-lvr, thanks for replying.

I get a message in Norwegian, which translates to something like: "This system does not fulfil the minimum requirements for installing the software. The installation will be cancelled". This happens with both intel installations. Windows 7 installed some Ricoh from Windows Update, so I assumed those were in the system already.

I don't have a fingerprint reader on my system, didn't order one. I wonder if the Broadcom USH driver could be for some of the extension slots?

That's strange. Are you sure you downloaded the correct version (64bit or 32 bit) The Broadcom driver is probably for the smartcard slot on the left side on your laptop then.
I'd give Dell a call to see why you can't install the Intel chipset.

I am pretty sure I did, and I've even tried downloading from both the norwegian and the US Dell site. But yes, a telephone call is probably the best thing now.

The machine works great though, no problems so far after installing Windows 7!

Anyone got a download link for the Intel Chipset drivers from Dell for Win 7 x64?
I'm not seeing them on the driver download page; thx.

You could just download the Vista64 drivers, i think they are exactly the same.
