Well, my order was cancelled, mainly due to my fault. So in short - it has been reordered, but with the shortage of parts, its should be here 4/30 :(

    This stinks...

    I don't understand why a business class machine doesn't have 900p option.

You can't choose your own color or backlit keyboard option on lower priced configurations either.

Also, you have to buy a whole new battery if you want a 9-cell instead of just choosing it as on option opposed to the 6-cell. What a bunch of bullcrap.

I thought the whole point of mail order/internet order is being able to customize my options.

This sucks. My XPS M1330 and Studio 14z had a plethora of options on any pre-configured models.

I agree. When I purchased the laptop again (I canceled the first one for some dumb reason), I wanted to make it a bit cheaper. So I called my rep and changed a few things. It didn't really save that much, but it helped some.

Like you said though, its packages with limited options. Almost like buying a netbook - you can't change a bunch of things (screen, HD, and etc) without upgrading.

HD to 320 GB and warranty for non-pro support. Didn't make that much of a difference in price (enough though), but based on the package for the processor, you can't change the HD size.

I agree too! Its diabolical! This is the only thing holding me back from making a purchase! In fact i want to purchase 2 systems but i dont want to fork out for their best configuration when i clearly do not need it!!

All i want is more configuration options like those available on a studio, if not all atleast the backlit keyboard and 9cell battery. In fact the 9 cell battery is not even an option on any of the UK configurations!

I know the Vostro 3000 series is due a refresh in April but the wait is killing me! Plus i dont want to end up spending the money on something else completely!!

Oh well... i feel better now :)

It just was refreshed - how would it be refreshed again...?

EDIT: Just spoke with our account rep in TX, and based on what he said there won't be one for at least a good number of months since they just came out.

I just ordered one a week ago, supposed to get it April 20th. Ordered the top of the line because I need it to do multimedia intensive presentations. There hasn't been a refresh on the 3000 series, its just that the series itself is only about a month old I believe. Even trying to get a discount through my sales rep was a pain because its a new series. I think only the 3500 will get a multi-touch screen, and I don't think the 3400 will be refreshed when that happens.

I am excited though, this thing should be easy on the eye, fast and has everything I need. I just hope that the build quality is as high as dell claims this new design is. Spill resistant back light keyboard is a nice touch.

One annoying thing is that a business level machine comes standard with Windows Home 32? Not that I care because we have a license for windows 7 ultimate 64 upgrade, but still they should offer professional standard...
