Can any Australian Vostro 3400 users confirm the 310M equipped 3400 definitely has HDMI? Very tempted to order but need to know this for sure.

Confirmed. In Melbourne here, got my 3400 today and it has HDMI.

Seeing as you are from Australia, can I suggest that you take them up on the free upgrade to 6gb offer.. if you do that then you will get a 4gb (plus a 2gb) stick so if you want to upgrade to 8gb you only have to buy one more 4gb stick. I got the 4gb version and regret it because now I am stuck with 2 x 2gb sticks.. and the cheapest 4gb sticks i can find are $270 each! :(

I quite like the backlit keyboard.. there are 2 brighness settings and I would have been happy with the dimer one, the brighter setting is a bonus. Although there is a little bit of 'bleed' in between the keys, the letters themselves (including the assiociated function symbols/numbers) light up so much that the bleed becomes negligable especially when looking down on the keyboard like you would if you were sitting at a desk.. when lying down and using it on your lap where you are looking at keyboard from a low angle, the bleed is more noticable.

Thinking about getting this or the Alienware M11x. There are basically no reviews anywhere for this so can one of you enlighten me if games perform well on the Nvidia 310m?

Also, is the battery any good or would I have to get the 9 cell one to squeeze out some more life?

Ohh whoops. I'm an idiot. I thought it didn't see it is not shown under the customizable options like the other priced pre-configurations show.

Since my GF wants a red one but doesn't need the fancy options, I'm thinking about getting myself one in the i5-520M configuration in red and swapping the chassis with the i3-350M configuration (with Bluetooth, backlit keyboard, fingerprint reader) in silver.

I hope the chassis is easy to swap like other Dell notebooks.

And while I am at it I may try to transplant a 14z's 1600x900 14" LED backlit screen.

Also, I will look at the keyboard ribbon cable to see if it can be transplanted in, for those of you who bought a 3400 without backlit keyboard option. These keyboards go for about $25.00 shipped on eBay and could probably be easily self installed.

I just found that it is better to.....

Not order the 9-cell battery if you need one with your notebook order.

It may be better to order it separately as an accessory through Dell Small Business and use one of those 20% coupons floating around the interwebz.

But again, that is if you need one.

I will get one just because I like how the notebook is perched up at an angle (like my M1330) making it easier to type and allowing the notebook to breath better.
