Thanks. I am glad you confirmed this. I actually had the camera working fine up until the reinstall. Actually, I did not use it in awhile so I'm not sure if it died before that time. Anyway, I'll contact Dell and request the replacement. Great forum!!!

I did confirm that the webcam is broken. Even without loading any of the drivers, the webcam should appear in your device manager. If it does not, you have a hardware problem. Just an update for those that are fruitlessly trying to add the drivers without any results.

UPDATE: After ordering the new webcam and installing it, the camera still did not appear in device manager. I replaced the entire lcd back assembly (the outer shell) which includes the wire harnesses for the webcam, lcd, etc.. and that solved the problem. I confirmed that the cables were the problem by replacing the old webcam and also the new one and both worked fine. The cable is very fine and it could have possibly had a bad solder joint. Hope this helps.

hey guys, are you getting flickering when its more than moderately bright? on 60hz i get flickering almost no matter what, but on 50hz it seems okay until it gets too bright. any advice on this? i feel like its partly crappy drivers/auto brightness adjust.

    any tips would be helpful.

    thanks!

John Ratsey, could you please post the link to the Dell webcam CD if you have it? I'm having the same issue as above and I don't have the CD. I've tried searching your posts but can't find a link to the contents of the CD.

    Thanks

I still have the file but I had taken it off my FTP site because I needed the space and I won't be in a position to upload it again for a couple of months. But if you are willing to post your email here (an anti-spam measure means newbies can't send PMs) I will get in touch with you.

i dont think the webcam software is needed. mine works fine without it. its pretty useless IMO, just lets you take pictures and play with the image a bit

    John,

I'd be interested in trying this out, too. I enabled my name to receive email from other users. Like a couple others here, my E6400 does not seem to have come with a webcam cd (or I've lost it - it's not with the other 3).

What are the chances.... this post was just resurrected TODAY? and I found it! Thanks for your help,

    Austin

    John,
I've just done the same, can you send me the details please.

    Thanks,
