My Latitude, barely 2 months with me, has it's speaker grill paint peeling off. It started with the right speaker grill and now the left one's starting to peel as well and its even bigger than the right one.

Anyone have any idea what type of paint I can use to fix it? I don't have the onsite luxury and I would really hate to send it to Dell just for cosmetic repair.

    Picture attached.

    Thanks in advance.

oh wow, that sucks! do you know if you've ever had anything hit or scratch that area? did it peel because of age (although 2 months is very short) or because something may have hit it?

It's strange that the paint should be wearing off at those locations - nothing should be rubbing against them.

I would first try using a black indelible marker pen to touch them up.

I don't really touch this area nor anything gets in contact with it except when I wipe it with a microfiber cloth. A few days before it actually peeled, I noticed that the paint started to "bubble". I think Dell just didn't paint it right. The left speaker grill also has peeled paint but it's a lot smaller than this one.

John - thanks for the tip. I'll try that and see if it's successful in hiding the damage.

Yeah seems like someone put a fat finger on it before it went to be painted or something, paint just didn't catch on properly. Have Dell send you a new grill and put it on yourself?

if its a bubble.... then it means that it was subjected to humility or extreme temp changes

Yeah but isn't it more likely it just wasn't degreased properly? The paint is of pretty good quality and the things you mention have to have been pretty extreme to cause this all of a sudden.

If you want to change it, just call them up, explain the problem, and they'll send you some new parts. You'll need a new palmrest and right speaker grille (the left grille is integrated into the palmrest).
