10 months with mine, and so far, the only real problem I've had are those stupidly tiny bumpers that don't protect the bezel at all.

I do have one paint chip on one of the corners, but that's more because I beat up the computer, not because it just decided to come off.

I've peeled the whole paint from the speaker's grill.
What do you think about that? I think, it looks better than before -with peeling paint...:(

In my opinion, and to be truthful it's not very nice.
Get spay paint, and do an excellent job to paint them back to black (protect the surrounding you that you don't have paint in the system, and at wrong places.

I saw a video review of the E6400 and the poster returned the laptop for the same issue.

I have the E6400 for less than a year and the left speaker grill's paint is chipping off. I had a D830 for 2 years and that was great. My wife's D410 is working great after 5 years with no problem, but this new E series really sucks. It's not comparable to D series in durability.

My guess, is that the manufacture that makes these speaker grid, decided to gain more money out of the contract with dell and start using cheaper quality pain, or Dell changed manufacture to save a few pennies.

In any case, I would have brought this issue to Micheal Dell - http://consumerist.com/2008/11/email-michael-dell.html, if enough people complain.. Dell should solve the issue. In any case, If you provide a formal, detailed, calm, polite, well written e-mail with your full name, location, and service tag of the laptop; perhaps some solution might be offered to you.

Problem solved! I called them and they came to my home and changed the whole notebook front case in 15 minutes. I love Dell support.

Well been on tech support with Dell concerning this issue. Dells
stand on this is it is a cosmetic issue even after i insisted that it was a QC issue. Very disappointing. I guess I'll remove the remainder of paint and repaint it. It would seem that paint though would clog the speaker holes. Anyone done a nice paint job repair on this issue?
