This problem happened also to me with an M4400 some months ago, during the summer.. since the laptop was still under warranty, they just replaced the piece ;)

Mine is also under warranty but as I stated Dells position is its a cosmetic issue which is not covered.

I would politely disagree. A paint problem is a paint problem, whether on the display back or the speaker grilles.

I think Dell are getting confused by cosmetic damage. ie if the paint comes off during normal wear then it would not be covered by the warranty. However, we know, from the many examples of the E6400 that do not have peeling paint, that this problem should not occur during normal wear.

I was as polite as can be John, but they would not budge off their position of cosmetic damage. I stated it was a known issue and considered it a possible QC problem with some units. They would have no part of it, I ended with how disappointed I was about their resolution of this matter.

Any luck in getting your speaker grill replace. I had the paint issue for months and thought I could live with it. I tried coloring it with a marker, but it does not stay. I find myself starting to get annoyed with it. Any update would be appreciated

I did send an email to Dell a few months back and never received a reply. I wonder if chat would be a better option.

Dell Canada replaced my speaker grill for no reason when they were replacing the palmrest, keyboard, hinge cover etc. Seems weird how some people have a harder time getting things replaced than others.

Just keep bugging the reps and say how "you went online and saw that many other people had the same problem and got their parts replaced" or "everyone always notices it and it makes dell look bad" lol

    Aye!

E-mail and Chat is THE WORST method to get ANY help/support/repair/replacement for ANY company. You have a problem, you want the best answer, CALL.
