Having a issue with a media bay, i insert it and it does now show up on my computer. It shows up in intel rapid media and is shown up in the remove safely menu. It did work then i removed it to insert the dvd rom and tried to put it back in and does now show up. I had this issue when i put it in the first time and did something but forgot what i did. Seeing if anyone had this issue and a solution.

i just bought the "new" edition found on ebay with the screw on the bottom to secure the caddy. it was listed as for the e6400 but it fits my e6410 fine, however, the color is not correct as its not the right shade of black, i dont know if this is a difference between the e6400 and the e6410 but there is definitly a different tint.

i havnt had an opportunity to put a hard drive in it, but i dont ill report back if i run into any problems with it.

I was considering the newmodeus part for my soon-to-arrive M4500. But since I'm in Belgium, Europe, I googled around a bit to maybe find an alternative that I don't have to order from the US.

I found this MicroStorage 2nd Hard Drive Caddy Dell - EET Holland

Apart from the fact that it seems to be quite a bit more expensive, I wonder if it is a real alternative? Anyone have this? It doesn't explicitly mention the M4500, but at least the E6510,M4400 and E6500, so I guess it should be OK after all?

I'll report my experiences. Bought the "new model" on Ebay for $11 buy-it-now and shipped from China to my door in the Midwest in seven days. Color is a tad off, but acceptable to me. One thing to note, it is a little different than the post above from JH-Man. Where the dvd rom has that push button tab to pull it out, this caddy has a fastened one where you can pry it out. Also it has a very bright blue led. For $11 I'm not complaining.

I threw in a Samsung Spinpoint 640gb that Newegg had a deal on last week. No screws holding the hdd down but there are 4 bumpers to keep it from moving side to side and the back bumper. Appears stable enough.

Didn't have to change anything in the BIOS. Windows saw it, I set it up through the Computer Management deal as noted in the Youtube video a few pages back. Works perfectly.

After about 20 minutes of straight backup both my hard drivers were at 40C.

A question I haven't seen answered in this thread.

I have an M6400 with two 500GB drives in raid 1, due to need to reduce possibility of loss of in process work due to drive failure. I would like to het an optical drive bay caddie and install fast 128GB SSD in it. However, I do not want to change the other drive configuration.

The question is - Can the SSD in the caddie (which I would never remove) be easily set up as the boot drive, with Win 7 on it, along with all of my applications? The two internal raid drives would then only be used for the videos and photographs I am working on.

BTW. Battery life is not an issue, as the battery is only used when moving it from one place to another in our offices. AC is used during all work times.

    Thx for an answer.

I can't think why not: The boot device order can be set in the BIOS (for example, you can set the optical drive to be first) or you can press F12 at the BIOS screen to make a one-time selection.

All the E6410s (even the coloured ones) are black on the sides and base and the black is the same as on the E6400.
