The first module i bought for my M4400 was a cheap Filipino one marketed at the same Lenovo's
I had to trim around the sata connector to get it to fit and the first time I put it in my M4500, it was soo tight the front bezel broke off when I tried to remove it meaning I had to take the bottom panel off to push it out.

My advise is stick with newmodeUS ones as they are manufactured to a much higher standard, although more expensive....get what you pay for;)

I am considering upgrade to 128GB SSD, buying the bay module and putting there the old 250GB 7200rpm drive, which I use now (maybe I'll replace it with bigger and slower/quieter hdd later, I plan to use this only to store movies/music).

What is your experience with noise/vibrations of hdd in the module bay? The original Samsung HM251JJ has very quiet seek, but it produces quiet hum and transfers vibrations to whole notebook. I am worried that putting the drive into the modular bay might make it worse.

Also one bonus question - as I would use the HDD only for movies and music all the time, I might set it to turn off after few minutes of inactivity to reduce noise/save power. I've been looking for informations if turning it on/off often is dangerous for the HDD, some people say it is, some say it's not. What's the truth? :)

Concerning the vibrations I can say that the 500GB disk that I moved to the (Newmodeus) module bay doesn't behave badly in any way. I don't notice it at all apart from when it has to spin up after inactivity, which I guess would be exactly the same in the HD slot.

BongoCZ - I actually use 80GB Intel G2 + 250GB Seagate momentus 7200.3 in module bay. It doesn't add vibrations to laptop (considering this is 7200 rpm I would expect this) , to be honest , it works x10 better than in USB external case. I had many issues with this drive in ext.case ... one of them was not discovering drive on E-sata (case also has e-sata output). It happened that suddenly (when on e-sata) disk dissappeared like it would be disconnected. Now in Modular Bay it works flawlessly. It also could be that mine drive is exception to other Momentus on the market.

OK, I'm currently having problems with my M6500 and OCZ Vertex 2 drives. I've had it in this M6500 for just 2 months, and today it turns on with no partitions.

I'm thinking I need to consider a 3rd HDD/SSD for backup purposes. I use a 2nd HDD already for storage, so the SSD is just boot.

Does anyone have any comments regarding these?

Does anyone know if you can RAID1 across the primary HDD bay and the optical bay in a M6500? I don't think RAID1 will truly help the OCZ from losing partitions, but who knows?
