Thanks, I also want one that doesn't stick out.

Does anyone know the weight difference (if any) between the 4cell and 6cell battery?

I guess I don't quite get the whole "sticking out" issue. The 9-cell protrudes less than an inch out the back, and it's not even along the whole back, just the center 2/3 of the width.

The reported battery life varies WILDLY depending on what I'm doing (CPU-intensive, disk-intensive, etc.). My remaining battery life is anywhere between 5 and 9 hours with the 9-cell. I assume it's towards the short side of that, but even so 5-6 hours is quite nice with wifi on.

Very spry with XP installed. So far this thing is a performance gem.

    Outlet Refurb + 4GB ram kit + Intel X25-M 80GB SSD = <$1300 total cost = MEOW!

I get four to five hours per charge with the 6-cell. That's all the juice I need.

That refurb SSD model is hawt!

As I just purchased my first laptop, I have a few questions for all the e6400 owners:

    1) What security software do you suggest (i.e., McAfee, Kaspersky)?

    2) Is the wireless card upgradeable?

    3) I currently have the Dell Wireless 153 802.11b/g Mini Card. Are there any recommended routers?

    Thanks in advance!

    From the E6400 User Guide:

    1. I use NOD32 since it has very low resource requirements. Pricing for 3 or more users is very reasonable.

    2. Yes.

    3. Don't know. I have the Intel 5100 card.

The thing gives absolutely fine images -- don't plan on using an SDTV to read text though, that is basically impossible. Watching movies, etc, though, works great. The e6400 (and e6500, and dx00,x10,x20,x30 do NOT have vga tv-out -- trust me, i tried numerous other solutions first, what i linked you works great) -- no nvidia cards have tv-out through the vga port. (maybe i shouldn't say none, but im almost 100% sure on that). And you cannot go to an analog (SDTV) using displayport, period. SDTV uses RCA connectors to composite, which will not take a digital signal. no amount of converting without something like what I linked will get you anything.

As far as I know ATI graphics cards are the only ones that has some kind of TV out through the VGA connector, at least for TV:s with RGB SCART input (Europe). This is because the ATI driver allows you to use "composite sync". You still need to solder a special adapter cable yourself because there is no such cable available for purchase. See here for reference: http://www.idiots.org.uk/vga_rgb_scart/

With Intel and nVidia graphics cards you need an adapter box. I would look in Mac forums for reviews because the new MacBook Pro doesn't have analog video out (DisplayPort only) and a lot of Mac users that do analog video editing are desperate to find a solution to this problem and video editing people are usually very picky about picture quality. See e.g. here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8375980
These Mac users are even more annoyed since there isn't even an analog VGA on the new MacBook so they need two adapters, one from DisplayPort to VGA and one from VGA to s-video.

I updated to the newest IDT audio driver and the cracking (that was somewhat under control with the driver before this one) has increased very much! This issue really annoys me.. :(
