Logically, heat means power consumption so use the setting which creates less heat.

Disabling means the device is still present but not operating. You need to go back into Device Manager to re-enable it. Uninstalling using the tray icon causes the device to disappear from Device Manager, so it is the same as uninstalling it in Device Manager. I would use the removal option since it is easier to re-enable it (partially pull it out and replacing it is quicker than going into Device Manager).

All the Vista x64 driver's I've used have run fine in Win7 x64.
Remember, Dell doesn't support Win7 (who would support a beta OS that's "For testing purposes only").

Now, I downloaded EVERY driver for Vista x64 for the E6400. Some would give an error saying they wouldn't work, but after I finished installing all of the ones that would work everything seemed to work fine.

Right now Win7 is yelling at me about a memory card reader problem. I'm assuming this is the SD card slot in the front but until I get home I won't be able to check.

Oh, i meant that goodbytes and someone else were talking about how disabling the card reader/slots actually made heat rise instead of making it the same or less cool and lowering power consumption.

I would open the back, and unplug the wire from the mobo.
or, u can disable the reader from device management.

just install the latest intel matrix manager to get rid of the latency issue.

and as for the heat issue, i don't think we've come up with an answer. i still maintain that disabling it helps. i was the other someone. GB may still disagree, but neither of us have done voltage drop testing or anything (or i haven't, anyway)

I think Dell knows the problem. If you look at the Latitude E5400, they changed the plastic.. possibly one that is more durable so it's won't scratch. And added 4 pads now, the same way as you did. I provided a picture as attachment.

It's a shame they didn't fix on the E6400, which is the higher end model.

Notebook Sleeve: I just bought and received a very inexpensive notebook sleeve for the E6400, and it is a perfect fit for the laptop with its 9 cell battery. Price is $4.66 including shipping:

Great sleeve if you are looking for protection from scratches. I have the well-reviewed ZeroShock III case also, and I actually like this cheap one a lot better.
