I found a coupon for 20% off Dell Parts/Accessories valid thru 3/20. If anyone needs a battery, docking station or other item that only Dell sells, it might be useful! Code- LP$6290H2MKBDF

anyone experience issues with their wifi when coming out of hibernation or sleep mode after the display lid being closed for a few hours and not immediately re-connecting to the wireless network? I have the intel 5100 a/g/n and it normally shows all the green lighting up but after going back into windows after my latch being closed for a while the icon stays more of an amber color and halfway lit up and it doesn't connect again and when I manually try to connect it doesn't work and I have to reboot... any ideas/fixes?

No issues with the above; FWIW I use the Windows WiFi native applet as opposed to any third party connection manager, and my power setting is set to "Balanced".

So it took all of yesterday working on my new-to-me E6400 but now it's working perfectly with Windows 7 x64 build 7000 (I'll get a newer build asap)
I was very worried that something was going to go wrong with hardware, dell's software, and my own software (photoshop, OrCad, Visual Studio, etc.). I also had to install the Bluetooth card myself.

I've got Dell Control Point working with the fingerprint reader running fully with passwords on my system, hard drive and user account.
All it took was downloading and installing ALL the Vista x64 drivers.

There were a few bumps though. In case you run into them, here's how I solved them.
    1. My very first problem was out of the box. The laptop didn't want to boot to my Win7 dvd (which scared me a lot lol). Go into BIOS and change the boot from "minimal" to "thorough" and you can change your boot device.

    2. Dell Control Point and fingerprint reader didn't want to play nice at first. The computer kept saying that the fingerprint reader wasn't connected or when it said it was it wouldn't read my fingerprint. I reran the DCP software from Dell's site and chose Repair. Somehow the fingerprint reader got unchecked in the installation of the DCP software.

    3. My Dell bluetooth mouse wasn't being "listened" to a lot of the time and the Win7 startup sound would "skip" and repeat (my co-workers got a kick out of that one). Windows Updates fixed both of these. :/

    Refurbished E6400 + Windows 7 = Very happy ex-Mac-user :)

Oh, and today I'm working on a Latitude C820 and a D800...there's nearly a decade of Latitudes on my desk lol

Another thing is if you have those wireless certification software to install (I need to use Secure W2). Like for me, to access the university wireless, it will totally fail to work under Windows 7.

thanks once again John. I should NOT remove the smart card reader, right? It still causes excessive heat?

and for the CD drive, is disabling the same as uninstalling? And uninstalling from the safely remove hardware icon is the same as uninstalling from the device manager?
