Not to derail the conversation here...but what can I do to get the Dell Logo sticker on the front cover to stay in it's spot? The second L there fell out awhile back, and it's a bit loose. I think it might fall out if it took a tumble or got jostled around. Anyone got any ideas?

I got the best of the best solutions. Call/Chat Dell tech support and ask for a new screen lid.

Well, I don't have on-site service. While I'm still within the return range as well, would they actually do anything for just a sticker? I'm really not that comfortable with replacing it myself either.

Well you can ask, push and see if they send you the part for you to do it, instead of them. It's pretty easy to do, if you wonder, just check out the service manual of the laptop.
If they say no, then well... your stuck at shipping the machine. Or you can see how to upgrade your warranty to Onsite service.. pay the different which isn't should not be much as you are still in the return time, and then get to fix the problem

You could send it back and let them repair it. I had to send in a Latitude about a month back because the bottom panel screw was stripped. I had it back in six days (sent it on a Wednesday, got it back the following Tuesday).

Or you could send it back for a refund (if you're still in the time frame) and get a new one?

I would really really hate to return this unit since I already had enough issues with Dell shipping me out a bad Bios slic that wouldn't let me activate Vista without calling Microsoft. I still have two more days within the return period however.

However, I've a few more issues...in addition to the Dell Logo on the front cover falling off a bit.

    1) My right LCD hinge is loose, I can budge it by pressing the lower part of the screen.
    2) My right top part of the right speaker grill is also loose. I can press it and it'll make a clicking noise.
    3) Not sure if this is a real complaint, but my keyboards has a slight raise to it on the right and left sides. It's really slight and does not affect usage, but if you look you can see the height difference. I can also press the keys around the areas and it has some give...
    4) Also...my battery seemed to gain some extra wear when I let the battery drain to the auto hibernate. I was surprised by this, and the fact that the wear increased by like 5%! Is that normal!? I mean, people use their laptops till they almost die, so how is that explained?

These are all minor issues...but added up together they make for one annoying problem. But I'm not sure what to do, this if my first time with any business support...what are my options? Also, I'd like to add I'm really uncomfortable with opening up the machine since I don't trust myself. Plus, these problems shouldn't be there anyway, I shouldn't have to put up with them.

    great find!
just purchased one after reading your post... $4.66 shipped and NO tax! wow, can't go wrong, figure I will use it for short term hauls/car rides between home and barnes & noble or starbucks when I don't feel like using a laptop bag! good post. Now I can chuck it in the back seat without having to be super careful with proper placement and worry of laptop shifting and banging into something when turning in a car haha.
