I just received the keyboard and it looks and feels like the genuine Dell keyboard. The seller said it is a Genuine Dell Keyboard.. I'm not arguing.

Now, I haven't received the replacement laptop because of some parts delay so will wait to do the swap.

    Questions about backlit keyboard

My original keyboard on e6510 is not a backlit and after reading the above post I am tempted to upgrade it with a backlit and have a few questions about the same.

I am looking at buying this one from ebay. powerslave12r thanks for the link!

    1. Would this keyboard be compatible with e6510?

    2. Would the motherboard that I have right now support backlit, in other words do I need something special on the motherboard to have a backlit?

    3. Would the BIOS recognize and give the options of backlit?

    4. Would the LED Cover which has the LED's and voice control be compatible with the keyboard from ebay?

    Thanks in advance!

I understand that answering 1 and 4 is difficult however how about 2 and 3?

    Thanks!

Patience. Most forum members also have other demands on their time.
We believe so, given that the E6400 / E6500 keyboard is compatible with the E6410. However, have you compared photos of the keyboard to check for any differences in the layout?

The motherboard supports all the keyboard options.

The BIOS supports all the keyboard options.

The LED cover is the same. It just covers the screws which fix the keyboard.

From Dell's point of view, the more they can standardise parts and make them interchangeable then the less the cost of production and subsequent support.

Thanks John and sorry about being a little impatient. Wanted to order it today so that I can get it by 10th but only after running through forum.

Yes I did compare the photos with the one that I have (pulled it out) and both look alike with a small different on the LEG cover. The sound keys a bit longer on E6510 but I think on the keyboard the buttons are at the same position.

I'm receiving my laptop today so I will carry out the install and let you know how it goes.

This ebay seller is great because I received it in a ridiculously quick turnaround time. Shipped very fast.

EDIT: Ordered Friday evening, received Monday morning.

virtualrs: Fingers crossed, although I don't see a reason why it shouldn't fit, it's not done until it's done.

    Thanks John.

EDIT: The laptop just came in, can't wait to get home and tinker with it.
