    Hey guys,
My M6600 just arrived today after 4 week delivery wait. Has the RGB IPS screen.
Can someone please confirm what the front panel should look like when the screen is closed and latched down...on mine there is a very noticeable bend along the entire front and the gap between the panel lid and the base is 1 or 2mm bigger at the sides than at the centre where the latches are.
Even when open the entire LCD panel bends across its length as if its a bit warped from the centre outwards. Is this normal??

Also, I've read lots of posts from people complaining about Chin Mei and LG screens being much inferior to AUO screens...does this situation also apply to IPS screens...are there various offerings of IPS screen on the M6600?..if so, how can I tell which one I have?

Thanks a lot for any help! (I worried a lot about the screen bend).
    S.

we have had two new M6600, both with the regular 1080p LG panel, and one did as yours does, with the bend. Probably because the latch was pulling too tight on the center. The other new M6600 has a more even gap .

The only RGBLED IPS panel that I have seen is made by LG.

Also, it looks like there is a new Chi Mei WLED screen complete with a new part number being shipped with the M6600. From what I was told it is as good or better than the AUO and LG and it does NOT have the same issues as the first panel did.

The weird thing about Chi Mei is that they have a very broad online reputation. You have rave reviews from some people going back to the mid 2000's and you have them being used in Macbook Pros and Ipad 2's. You also have the terrible reviews of the first Chi Mei panels that were included with the M6600 about a year ago.

I forgot to ask what the new Chi Mei part number was. Hopefully someone will be able to let us know how the new one looks. Would be even better if they could measure it.

Does anyone know if it is possible to remove and clean the GPU fan & vents without having to take the whole heatsink off? I really don't want to get into having to re-paste my GPU and all of that. If so, is there a diagram anywhere showing how to get to the darn fan?

Thanks in advance for any help given!

Yes, you can remove the fan if needed without messing with the heatsink. However, you should be able to clean it (blow it with clean compressed air) without getting into the system that deep.

Thanks, the only reason I was looking to remove the fan was so that I can clean the vents too, they seem to accumulate lots of dust buildup, and if I spray the vents without removing the fan and just cleaning the dust out, then all of that stuff will just end up on other parts of the system.

    Hey all,
Had my cool new M6600 for almost a week now. Very happy and impressed with its speed, handling and case materials.
The RGB-LED IPS screen is totally AWESOME!!!! I highly recommend it as it simply blows away any of the non-ips screens, even the very high quality TN screens. The colours are so vivid and perfectly matched. All my photos look totally different now, much better than my desktop Dell 2007 IPS desktop monitor.

I put in an SSD drive (Samsung 830) which is incredibly fast now, best upgrade you can do! and only cost 100 pounds.

Only gripes I have with this amazing laptop are:
    1. Came with tray-loading dvd, I expected slot-loading :(
    2. Lcd panel is warped across it's width because the latches holding it when closed are seated wrong and pull it too hard, causing the permanent warp at both sides. It's only a problem with aesthetics, but come on, really dell! I expected better quality control for a $2500 laptop.

Love the keyboard though - soooo much better than the crappy chiclet style keyboards on 99% of modern laptops.
