Here are the codes in the USA:

    Slot load DVD:
318-0352 Slot Load DVD+/-RW Drive, Dell Mobile Precision
331-1263 Slot Load Bezel, Dell Mobile Precision

    Tray load DVD:
    318-0354 8X DVD+/-RW Tray Load w/Roxio and Cyberlink
318-0351 Optical Bezel, Dell Mobile Precision

    Tray load Blue Ray:
318-0353 Blue Ray Drive, Dell Mobile Precision
318-0351 Optical Bezel, Dell Mobile Precision

You'll have to ask others on the forum as to whether slot/tray bezel can be swapped out and what's involved. I found literature on removing the optical drive in their service manual, but unfortunately nothing on removing/replacing the left side bezel.

    Again, hi all!
I love this forum, it's a total mine of useful info that helps me with the M6600 I've just bought. :))

Sorry to put in so many posts today...but really need a bit more help:

Anyone have Dell Premier-color IPS panel and using the Dell Premier-color application software successfully??

I reinstalled Windows 7(64bit), put on newest AMD Firepro8900 drivers and newest Ati Catalyst control centre. When I try to run the Premier-color app (downloaded from Dell site) it checks my display for compatibility and then closes with a message:
"Required graphic driver software is not installed"

Which drivers and software should I have installed? Should I use Ati Catalyst control centre? Is it worth installing and using the Dell Premier-color app?

I do a lot of graphics work, but also play games and watch films on the laptop. I'm really keen that my display shows pictures/colours as well as it can in the widest gamut.
Should I try to use Ati catalyst for colour profiles, or Premier-color app or a simple windows ICM profile?
Please help me calibrate my display for best colours anyone who uses their M6600 for graphics work..
    Thanks.
PS: thanks RichardK for that useful info. I will look into buying one...though I don't yet understand what you mean by "bezel" and how that will affect the installation process.

No, he was not totally wrong.
First Windows 7 mainly measures the amount of installed RAM memory.
The more you have, the better the Windows per4mance index. Second Windows performance index is far from being a reliable indicator - believe it or not.

It is a fact, that Dual Channel mode only affects the overall memory power in single digit percent range even if the Windows 7 performance index something else would have us believe.

I had assumed its the plastic strip along the left side of the notebook. Here are two pictures of M6600's; the first with a tray loader and the second with a slot loader:

Can anyone more authoritative comment on what precisely is the plastic bezel part?

That's right... the bezel is the plastic part of the drive that needs to match the actual external casing of your laptop. And while normally you can take it over to a new optical drive if you get one, the bezel is different between tray-loading and slot-loading drives. You can clearly see it in those two photos.

something strange happened to my m6600. My screen went dead the other day . DEAD

customer service tried everything, it was showing up on the dock, passed checkout, but wouldn't post to the screen (have the LP173WF1) which was flickering.

We tried Function + F8, various keys + start button, everything.

    Thing was out.

I decided to put it on the dock. Wipe EVERY driver on the machine, and download everything fresh. Every driver.

I look at the dates that they were posted, and installed them chronologically (oldest to newest, section by section). Still didn't fix the screen problem or anything, but I let it sit over night charging.

Anyways, tomorrow they are changing it out to a H8D3K which I think is the AOU v.5 woo woo.

But today I come home, boot it, and suddenly the screen starts working . . . .

besides that its on the lowest setting now WITHOUT flickering.

I think the flickering thing was resolved with the newest drivers. What I noticed is I pushed an A09 bios on top of a A09 bios, and it seemed to have added some features (do they have sub sections of bios versions, maybe A09v2 ??)

Either way, some of you may want to try this. It may fix your flickering problem.

Im waiting for the screen to go out again, its strange it SUDDENLY started working and fixed the flickering issue!!

Either way, new better screen tomorrow!!!

Hi, I am trying to run 2 external monitors as well as my internal display on my M6600. Currently running one monitor via VGA and the other via HDMI but only 2 displays will work, not all 3. The ATI control panel allows me to choose which 2 displays to run, but won't allow all 3.

The answer I received from Dell is this:

"A maximum of 2 legacy monitors (VGA, DVI or HDMI) can be enabled simultaneously, provided that each monitor is connected either directly or via a "passive" DisplayPort adapter/dongle. "Passive" adapters/dongles will NOT support more than 2 legacy monitors"

"To enable support for more than 2 monitors, "active" DisplayPort adapters/dongles are required (or monitors with direct DisplayPort connectivity must be used)."

Can anyone please elaborate on this? One monitor has a displayport, where as the other only has VGA and DVI.

I have also heard I can get around this by purchasing a docking station?

    Earlier, someone posted this.
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/att...-owners-lounge-m4600m6600-multimonitor-3-.jpg

It looks like to use three monitors, one of them MUST be DisplayPort, and the other two can be whatever you want.

So, you will need to connect one of the monitors to the DisplayPort. Since one of your monitors has a DisplayPort, the best option is probably to just find a cable and connect it. Otherwise, you will need an "active" adapter like you mentioned in your post.

You can use more monitors if you have a dock --- but still, only two non-DisplayPort monitors can be used (including the built-in LCD).

Ah that's great. I ordered a displayport cable yesterday so hopefully that will fix the issue. Many thanks!
