Oh I'm not worried about the temperatures. It does not overheat. I just want to kick in the fans sooner and faster when I'm on battery so that it becomes cooler and more comfortable to hold in my lap. I used to have a MBP and I had a good fan control software that allowed me to keep the fans at 4000 rpm when using it on my lap and thus it was very cool to the touch.

Oh... Was wondering if my M6600 has the same CPU heatsink as a quad core model. I am interested in swapping out my i5 for a 2720qm that are so cheap on ebay.

Well after some issues with a recent m6500 outlet return, I just joined the ranks of the m6600 owners! Picked up the following from the outlet - had a heck of a time competing with the bots/scripts the resellers are using. I finally had to call in and was able to get the following for a little under 1200 after the current coupon and other bargaining:

    i7-2860
    8 gigs ram
256 gb solid state drive (not a requirement but nice!)
1920x1080 touch screen - again not a requirement and not sure if i will use (going to miss the 1920x1200)

Basically using this as a development platform with some gaming. Given the performance and warranty, the precisions at the outlet are tough to beat on price.....

Question on how to set Projector Only.

Two identical docking systems. One at home, one at work.
Identical everything (docking station, monitor, keyboard, mouse).

At work M6600 will always boot or resume to Projector Only (which is what I want).
At home M6600 will always resume to Extend display using both external monitor and internal. After a year I've finally decided now I need to solve this irritation.

Any suggestions how I get home docking system to always resume using Projector Only (i.e. external monitor only).

This is actually less trivial then one thinks because external at work and home is 2560x1600 (Dell 3008WFP) which means at home (on resume) resolution switches to 1920x1080 (and everything gets resized, etc.).

    Thanks.

I was curious if anyone knew of an aftermarket blu-ray player/dvd burner combo that might work with the m6600 that is a little more reasonable than Dells's price? I don't need a blu-ray burner, just a player. ALso, will any player work as long as the dimensions on it are correct?

Any standard "ultraslim" 9.5mm drive should work. The only BD-RE drives available are the Panasonic/Matshi-ta UJ-232, UJ-242, and UJ-252. The UJ-252 (current model, that Dell is shipping in the M6700) runs about $200 --- a bit under half of Dell's price for the upgrade.

I'm not sure what BD-ROM drives are available but I'm sure you can find some for even cheaper than that.

You'll want to make sure that it has the standard flat/square bezel included, or if you currently have a tray-loading drive, you can swap the bezel from it to your new drive.

If anyone using Optimus has been frustrated with windows dropping color profiles that contain a gamma table on Lock / Unlock and UAC prompts due to the bug with the Intel HD 3000 drivers the new M6700 Intel HD 4000 drivers resolve the issue & maintain back-light control.

Driver can be found here : Drivers and Downloads | Dell [United States]
