How does Dell get off with offering 1366x768 as the highest resolution on the 3700's 17.3" screen? That kills any possible purchase from me.

Since you're a student, fill in the unincorporated company name for example as:

    John Smith Research

although that's what it says on the dell US website, many believe that it's a typo since a recent review of a 17 in unit noted a 1600x900 screen

I'm really interested in either the vostro 3400 or 3500.
However, I'm waiting for higher screen resolutions to appear for the above mentioned models.

But I've got a question, is a Thinkpad T510 better than a Vostro 3500 in terms of build quality, screen quality and durability ( let alone the looks, the t510 is fine for me... ) ?

If you are going to use your notbeook at home you don't have to fill in the company's name. If you don't have a txx number (which I don't since I don't have a company) they say I just have to type: 0000000000

So ordering online is no problem. I'm going to call them though to try to get a discount, get azerty instead of qwerty, and perhaps a better battery since 4 cell seems way to small for me.

If they also offer 3 years of warranty for buyers like me who don't have a company, for only 100€ extra (instead of 1 yr waranty) I'll postphone my purchase to save up that amount of money :p I have 550€ atm, and the new 3300 vostro costs 850 with 3 years warranty. If they will not give me the bussines warranty for 100€ i'll get myself the cheapest version with 1 year warranty for 620€ (with 3 gigs instead of 2 gigs of ram being the only upgrade).

Speaking of which, do you think I will notice the 2 to 3 gigs of ram upgrade when only using programs like:
    Word, Acces, MSN, Internet?
I upgraded the ram in my acer from 2 to 3 gigs (800mhz, while the vostro has 1333mhz I think) and didn't notice a big difference, gaming for exammple is just the same.
The upgrade on the vostro is only 25€ extra, but i'm a bit short on cash atm rofl. So....think its worth the ram upgrade?

Imho, I don't think you'll notice any improvement. Word, Acces and internet,... that aren't really ram-intensive programs. Well except if you have more than, let's say, 25 tabs open in your browser.

I think it's better to save your money.
If you really need more ram in the (far) future, you'll be able to buy it cheaper anyway.

The extra guarantee feels nice indeed. I'm having the same cash problem, wait and save for guarantee or not... It's a tough question and I don't have the answer either :p

Seems like you can't get Dell EPP when i try to use it just to see how much of a full discount i get, its only for home machines? Or can a order support do that for you?
