Do all versions of Dell offer the same upgrades?

never mind, answered my own question. on Dell Hong Kong, you are able to add the discrete nvidia for some amount of money. battery options remain the same. 4/8 cell for 13-inch. 6/9 cell for 14 and larger.

The discrete graphics in these new Vostros aren't hybrid, are they? (Integrated for battery, dedicated for plugged in)

It does not appear to have switchable graphics

I would think that any Ix/Nvidia combination would come with Optimus.

Not all of em. I think only Asus is doing it right now. Correct me if I am wrong though!

I would think Dell would have highlighted this as a feature if it did have it.

Correct only Asus is doing so at the moment.

Edit: michael is right, Medion also has a laptop with optimus technology. How could I forgot, I even recently read the review on notebookjournal.de :)

    Hi,
You may call them. A co-worker here ordered a Laptop (It was some Inspiron or Studio, if I remember correctly) with french keyboard and Windows - from Dell Germany.

Perhaps you need to wait until the 3xxx Vostros appear in France also.

Roughly a month ago, Aldi (a supermarket chain here in Germany and some other countries) offered the Medion Akoya P6622, which was equipped with
    • Core i3-350M
    • 4 GB RAM
    • 500 GB HDD
    • Intel HD and Geforce 310M (Optimus)
    Price: 600€

The new lineup looks great, hopefully Dell fleshes out the options list relatively quickly, they are known for their limited configurations when introducing new product-the latest Inspiron launches along with the Mini launch was similar.

I was thinking that. It's disappointing to see. With the prevalence of these chipsets (i3/i5) carrying integrated graphics, there is no reason not to implement hybrid graphics on these laptops.
