Dell's websites are a mess and I would be wary to believe anything because it's written on those. Currently, on the Belgian website, there are models default configuration you can't even order due to mismatches

Does anybody of you know how it is with the warranty if your in a country that doesn't have a support center (see list)? I know that you need to purchase the NBD onsite to be international.
What if your in a Country that's not on the list, does Dell offer a Pick-up service like HP or similar?

The config I was going to get dropped by approximately 30-40 dollars (vostro 3400 3rd option with discrete nvidia, 4gb ram).

But need more reviews on quality!

oh, and estimated ship date was 4/19 (about 3 weeks)

I saw some peoples comments on it, and it seems to do very well. Hopefully I will get mine soon and I will find out for myself.

Depends on what color you pick. There is currently a lead time of 10 working days on the other colors.

Please be sure to comment on quality of the laptop, particularly the plastics used! That's my biggest concern so far

Thanks Roland, that's good to know. Although I asked Dell and apparently they only offer backlit keyboard for the 3700 with the highest configuration i.e. the last column with the higest price. A £150 premium doesn't seem quite justifiable for a backlit keyboard IMO.... :(

    Hi to all!

i have 2 questions to owners of new vostro.

    1. how is fan behaving and is fan noise excessive? in idle and at full load.. is it coming off and on non-stop or behaving subtle and non-aggressively. I am pretty sensitive to unwanted noises so bad design in this area would be a deal breaker for me.. : (.

    2. how are the speakers..? is it possible to enjoy a few songs or a movie in any way, when external speakers or headphones are not available..?
i am aware that they are for sure not good as for example studio 1747 ones, but are they below or above average..?

    thanks!!

So I get my 3400 on April 20th. Its the top of the line configuration. I too am curious on the build quality of this machine and will comment on it when i get it. In fact I didn't want to even get dell because of previous bad experiences with quality, but I figured I'd give them one last shot with his one, since it is advertised to have enhanced durability.

As far as the speakers, I would expect below average, this is a business level machine, the speakers are there pretty much for video conferencing. In fact the 3300 doesn't even have stereo speakers. One more reason to opt for the 3400 (that and HDMI and extra USB).

I also love how people seem to be comparing these to Latitudes and Precision models (i think someone even mentioned a thinkpad). That is apples to oranges, if you can afford those models then get them, at well over $1000 for low end models (low end models of the vostros are what $600?) the build quality BETTER be better than a new Vostros. These are an economical choice for businesses that should be better built then the economical choices of consumer level laptops.

It's okay to compare Thinkpads to these Vostros. Since they just came out, people including myself are throwing out comparisons to gauge the quality and build of these Vostros. Because Thinkpads are ubiquitous in the business world, people most likely have had experienced using them and will be able to rate the new Vostro models using Thinkpad as a reference.

The same goes for Latitude and Precision models. We are not oblivious to pricing and only mention such models for comparison
