21%??? Is that a sales tax? VAT? Belgium specific?

OK... so, is VAT country-specific? Or is there one value for EU?
My understanding is there is a tax for each level of manufacture or step that 'adds value' to the product. And, is the end user who pays that tax then? So, a $1,000 laptop would have a $210 tax?
But, if you are a company/corporation you don't pay it? How does that work?

Perhaps this is not the place... but our gov (U.S.) has floated this idea in one form or another a few times lately

    (afaik, not a pro)

Each Country in the EU has it's own gov so the VAT is country specific. As far as i know the VAT system in most EU countries is very similar to the US one.

In ger the VAT is 19% (7% for food and some other) and is payed in each level of munufacture and by resellers, but is passed down step by step to the end user.

For companies which want to use a product directly there are possiblities to get some of the tax back they paid.

btw. is there a chance that i will be able to activate optimus through a software update later (3500, i5, nvidia 310m) ?

It's a shame that only the Vostro 3500 is getting the touch screen option. 15" is a little big for a 1366x768 screen, but I'd really like the multitouch features for Windows Phone 7 development.

The Sony owners have almost unlocked Optimus from the Z using nothing but beta drivers and without help from NVIDIA or Sony. Ultimately, NVIDIA will probably work a retrofix to enable Optimus on its 3 series Notebook cards or Vostro owners will figure out how to do this on their own.
