We had a Vostro 1500 for about 2.5 years with no problems at all. My wife sold it to her friend (I did a fresh OS install, etc.) and it still running just peachy after almost 3 years all told...and it has the infamous nVidia 8400gs ( aka chip of death) in it!

A Vostro 1720 was the upgrade we purchased middle of last year. It was great until it was stolen (DIAF theives). We have a new 1720 to replace it (thanks insurance replacement policy), but I wish I'd known the 3700 was coming out, I'd have def have waited a month to pick that up instead. About the same price as the 1720 in the sig below, but with an i5 processor and 6mb of ram!

They are not the small tanks that the Magnesium skinned E6x series are, but they are pretty decent overall.

maybe it was 4-5 on idle. i am sure battery life claims are over-inflated. (except for asus, who I've found to have battery life claims that match real life)

    okay.
here was review for 3700: http://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/review/notebooks/dell/vostro_3700_notebook/338793/specs#cb
    specs were
Intel Core i5-520M CPU, NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M graphics,
Not sure what this translates to in terms of "normal" usage

Do these new Vostros come in black exteriors? On their website, I can only see Silver, Red and Brown.

That review and the specs on the US site seem to indicate "HD+" 1600x900 for the 17". Manufacturers need to give up on bull like WXUGAHYUA and HD+ and learn to just give people the actual resolutions. Are their customers really so stupid they can't understand number resolutions? Instead we should welcome worthless made up resolution identifiers? UGH.

All displays seem to be antiglare though, and dell should definitely be congratulated for that.

    I am little bit confused.
According to www.dell.com, the only configuration available for the Vostro 3700 is 1368*768.
According to the australian review, the resolution was 1600*900.
According to the Austrian/German representative, the resolution is 1440*900.

    ???

The people who update the websites and you get on the phone are basicly idiots. It will be 1600 x 900

I really like the Vostro 3700 but man, that resolution is absolute garbage for a screen that size. I hope they offer a higher res in the future as well as to add back-lighting which is not an option until you fork over a lot more money and move up to another laptop package.
