    Hi Razibus,

I wrote a post a few days ago asking about Hyperthreading, and havoctex has ackowledged that disabling HT in the BIOS will be made available in a future update

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=5805652&postcount=1317

But by all means please do ask as well, as I guess the more people that request it the quicker they might update it :)

    Cheers

I changed the msconfig but it did not change the result of the test. It was even worst (59min30)!

I entered for Number of processors : 2

I think we have to wait the BIOS update or/and a new version of Revit...

Hyperthreading technology tricks the system to make it think it has 2 processors by core. That means revit will see 8 processors but it's only optimized to use 4 processors at most so it will use 50% of i7. (My mistake, when I gave the explanation I forgot about HT)

If this option for HT is available in the bios, it will work for revit. Nevertheless there are older programs which are not optimized even for dual core processors. (yes it's possible!) So with the option I'm talking about is more than disabling HT, it also disables multicore so all programs see only one processor.

As very often the hardware technology is faster than the software one. The best option at all would be to keep multicore and HT enabled in the bios, and have the possibility to manage it for each program under windows 7. (I'm dreaming...)

Did you try 4? I'm not sure what physical or logical processors are disabled using this method, but since it's so easy to do you may want to try disabling 4 cores (physical/logical) Certainly this may not have the same effect as disabling hyper threading in the BIOS, but it may provide you with some useful insight in how your program uses the mobile core i7. Just a thought. :)

As I cannot use the M6500 for professional reasons (I am waiting for the replacement of the Motherboard and Graphic Card), I have time to do some tests...

I changed "Set affinity" and ticked only CPU0 and CPU1 for Revit.exe (and fbxooprender.exe) , but it did not work. The Task Manager was showing only 25% for Fbxooprender.exe.
The Render Time was 2min58! but the system became unstable and freeze for a short while... Like the old time with my Precision M60...

By curiosity, after reading http://masolution.blogspot.com/2008/01/how-to-use-only-one-core-of-multi-core.html I changed the "Set affinity" and ticked CPU0, CPU1, CPU2 and CPU3. The render time was 23:31 but the system was stable and no freezing. But that method is very similar than when "All Processors" are ticked...

Not a good way I think.

Is this as a result of your tests, or is there another issue?

Anybody has experienced problems connecting iPhones to their M6500? It's been impossible for me to sync the phone twice in a row...it keeps disconnecting.

This apple thread links the problem to the PM55 board. Different BIOS updates have solved the problem...

havoctex, do you know if this is something that's looked at?

    Thanks,
    Pablo
