    Hi icon123,

Just an FYI, you can buy, OCZ Vertex SSD's from Dell...
You can haggle with your dell rep to get the price down… :D

A OCZ 250GB SSD but it will cost you $944.99
    And the
    OCZ 150GB SSD for $509.99

    OCZ FW Update:

    Before you update your firmware:

You should Burn an image of your primary hard drive C: drive to an external hard drive.
I like Acronis True Image Home 2010 you can buy it just about anywhere.

You can download free trial of Acronis True Image Home 2010 at the bottom of the
webpage. Just Google: Acronis True Image Home 2010

You can buy, Acronis True Image Home 2010 -> Dell Only price for $35.95 that's a good
    price.

And Read Acronis True Image's User Guide; it's on the right side,
under Learn More the .pdf file is 8.8MB

Read about Cloning Your Hard drive, in the user Guide. Go to Transferring the System to a
new disk, on pages 165 – 171 Cloning.

To see what version of the firmware, you are running:

Go to Device Manager > Disk Drives > Locate your SSD > Double-click your SSD
and go to the Drivers Tab look at the Driver Version, compare and update
    if needed.

You will need something like rocketfish it’s a hard drive enclosure kit.
Just Google: 2.5 hard drive enclosure kit

    ACHI & IRRT Mode:

    And read my post# 2379

    I Hope This Helps,

Thanks for the replies. Can anyone tell me why the OCZ Vertex is better than the OCZ Agility? They seem to have similar specs, for the 60GB model, which I would be getting, with the Agility being slightly better in the substained write than the Vertex. The 60 GB Agility is also about $45.00 cheaper on NewEgg right now.

Vertex uses one type of flash memory, Agility uses multiple. It is actually possible that you get an Agility that uses faster flash memory than a Vertex, but on average, it will be slower. Though honestly, the differences in performance are negligible and I would say the $45...

Sorry, I lied about the $45.00, its only $15.00 less. With that being said, is there any benefit to the Intel X25-M, 80GB over the OCZ, besides more GB? It seems a little slower (hypothetically) than the OCZ, but I see its a popular choice around here.

Here are the breakdown on prices (NewEgg):

    Intel 25-M, 80GB: $214.99 = $2.68 per GB
OCZ Vertex, 60GB: $149.99 = $2.50 per GB (after MIR)
OCZ Agility, 60GB: $134.00 = $2.23 per GB (after MIR)

Sorry for all the questions, but SSDs are new to me and I need to make a purchase quickly.

Intel - Slightly better random read/writes
Vertex - MUCH better sequential writes

    icon123,

For better performance you need at least a 120GB SSD. Look at it this way, you went out
And spent all that money on the M6500, and now you are going to cram the OS and all
Your programs on a 60GB or 80GB SSD come on. if you don’t have the money for the right size SSD
just wait, until you do have the money for the right size SSD…

I guess I need to figure out what is more important. I see there is a SSD thread, so I will head over there.

I don't really think that is as important for me as maybe it is for for you. I run 500GB HD on all my laptop/desktops and only size the main (OS) partition to 60-80 GB and have plenty of space left over. I use the rest for other OSs and data. I would plan on the same here, justifying why I don't need a bigger SSD. Sure, when I can afford a 500GB one, then I might be able to eliminate my HDD all together. But for now, 60 to 80 GB is just fine. However, the programs I run maybe much smaller than yours.

Random R/W speeds are much more important and will make everything load faster. Sequential R/W speeds are more for marketing (bigger numbers) but not really used often in practice.

My thinking is, if 80GB is enough, go Intel. If you need 100-120GB go Vertex LE/Vertex. If you need 160GB, go Intel.
