Received my Latitude 13 today. Unfortunately, after running an update (not to 10.04, but just a normal update), it will not boot into Ubuntu after I had to restart. I am running the diagnostic CD as we speak. If that does not work, I will try to re-install. Strange thing is, I have never had that problem with my old Dell D820 running the same version of Ubuntu.

As for the computer itself, it is pretty much the same size and weight as my Envy 13. In my opinion however, it feels cheaper in comparison. Probably due to the fact that where you see black on the Latitude 13 it is plastic. The keyboard is nicer than I expected, so no complaints from me. It runs a tad bit hot underneath compared to my Envy 13. It does seem to smoke my Envy in general operation speeds though. Applications open faster, and youtube videos download faster also...this is probably due to the 64GB SSD. Battery life is not that good, but it was expected.

If I get Ubuntu up and running again, I will have to weigh my options...$2050 Envy 13 or $1250 Latitude...

Did Dell drop the V13 with Ubuntu? It's not listed anymore and I was looking to pick one of the $449 configuration when Ubuntu 10.04 releases late this month.

I noticed that also. Your best route may be the Latitude 13, which is the same laptop IMO...

I returned my L13 today, only to find a 35% coupon. I may reorder another for $900 (tax included) for Ubuntu, 4GB, and a 64GB SSD.

Thanks but I checked the L13 configs and it's been stripped clean. You only get 1GB of memory and a 160GB HDD for $469. The V13 started out with 2GB of memory and a 250GB drive for $449.

Hopefully Dell will put the config back when Ubuntu 10.04 gets released later this month. Another thing I found amusing was on the Vostro main page it says on top "Vostro V13....prices starting at $449"

Has anyone purchased the Core 2 Solo version? If so, how is the battery life and how well does it work with Win 7?

Also has anyone used an external blu-ray drive with one?

Just picked up a V13 off the outlet (the first one I've seen listed in awhile) for $636 including tax. That's fully loaded! So I'm pretty stoked about it. I won't be able to unbox it until two weeks from now since I am not currently at home, but hopefully it should be in good condition.

My last experience with buying a E6400 from the outlet was not so good even though the unit was a "Previously New" one. Crossing my fingers.

Yeah $639 IS a nice price but my only concern in the V13 and I forgot where I read it, maybe the Engadget review that the 7200rpm drives produce more heat and vibration.

OP did your $639 include an external DVD drive? If so nice deal. I'm leaning on getting one hopefully in a couple of months (Ubuntu version) but it definitely will have the 5400rpm drive.
