I ended up sending mine back due to the touchpad issues.

You were trying to run Linux on it, right?

yea, but it wasn't the OS. I put the Windows drive back in it, same problem. Dell replaced the palmrest and touchpad, but the issue didn't go away.

Wow, the person who said the 500GB runs cool and virtually no vibration was right !

I just got my V13 and i'm amazed that it has almost zero vibration i.e. similar to the 5400 RPM drive and it runs cool after 30 minutes.

Man, I'm wishing I would have ordered the 500GB drive now... Oh well :) Hoping mine ships soon, expected delivery isn't until 5/17 though...

Does anyone know what the SATA interface speed is on these laptops, 3.0Gbps or 6.0Gbps? Do you think it would be a waste to put an OCZ Vertex 3 (550MB/s read 525MB/s write on SATA 6.0Gbps)? I just don't know what the point of diminishing returns would be due to CPU/bus limitations...

Bah you didn't know and neither did I. I took another posters word that they run cool and have little vibration. I gambled at that price and the price mistake on Dell's website made the deal even better. It's hard to argue with a -$10 upgrade for 4GB of memory and free shipping. :D

I've seen similar drives for about $50 on Newegg.

Only really Sandy Bridge laptops will support SATA 3. The Vertex 3 would be handcuffed to SATA 2 speeds.

And you even doubted Dell for taking advantage of them :p . I'm glad the hdd is perfect. This is the 500gb 7200rpm drive w/o noise and heat right?

Yup very little heat i.e. as much as my 250GB 5400 RPM notebook drive in my other V13 and the vibration is about the same. The 320GB drive they used in the V13's are garbage.

I am having a problem with my headphones jack. I am trying to use my iphone headphones with a mic and the only way to get undistorted sound is to hold down the mic button. I know that it is not the headphones themselves because they work fine on my other computers.
