I believe the problem is with the backorder on some of the monitors. I ordered mine Friday, 7/13, and it went into build right after I ordered. I had the standard 14.1" matte (no TrueLife) 1280x800 display.

I think this is possible for sure, I am guessing there are actually 6 different displays for the Vostro 1400:
    wxga with webcam
    wxga without webcam
    wxga truelife with webcam
    wxga truelife without webcam
    wxga+ truelife with webcam
    wxga+ truelife without webcam

I ordered my Vostro 1400, wxga with webcam..So it seems that this webcam will delay the shipment?

Hello all. I just ordered a Vostro with the following specs:
The total came to $914 without tax, $997 with tax.

I also ordered 2x1GB from Newegg for $80, instead of getting the 2GB upgrade from Dell for $150.

What do you guys think - did I get a good deal? I hope so, because I'm going to have to wait until August before this thing is shipped.

My guess is that it would be a little bit cheaper with the Vostro 1400, considering the 9-cell battery is included in the Smart Value deal.

    hlcc -

where did you sell your 1GB? Can you do this ordering from frys?
selling included software? Do you mean the OS? I hadn't thought of that...
    good idea.

Ordered on 13th, went into "production" on the 14th - Est. Shipping 8/2

either I am lucky or there is a "Changed" in my future. Even still, these 27 day waiting periods are ridiculous! I remeber dell being faster in years prior.. but it seems everyone is slow these days, Lenovo, Campal, ... what's the fricking story?!?!

Good point. Looking into that it seems like the 1400 would have costed $50 less. I think that $50 for the better screen is worth it though.
