Well the problem didn't go away and it is pretty annoying. I contacted Dell and I am waiting to hear back from them.

What I've been doing lately is getting them from Flickr. There are some amateur photographers that post high quality images that are great for wallpapers. I like this dudes pics:

Didn’t look at which ones were cds vs dvds, but, I received 7 disks with my 1500 (in New Zealand).
I’m at work, so can’t see what they were but, from memory, they were

    Antivirus software
    Media direct
    Microsoft Works
Driver disk (I think this was a dvd)
Os reinstall disk (Vista Ultimate (32bit) DVD)
    Webcam software
    Dvd player software.

Hmm, I also remember seeing a audio software disk. Maybe it was 8 disks…

Hello all, I guess I am in the minority here - I ordered a Vostro 1000... haven't seen many others who went with the 1000. It seems as if the main difference between the 1000s and the 1500s is that 1000s have AMDs instead of Pentiums. My 4 year old desktop has an Athlon 2200 and it's treated me well so I'm confident with AMD. Here are my specs:

    Vostro 1000, AMD Athlon 64 X2 TK-53 (1.7GHz/512KB)
15.4 inch Wide Screen XGA LCD Vostro 1000
1GB, DDR2, 533MHZ 2 Dimm (will prob. upgrade to 2GB if its an easy install)
Integrated ATI Radeon X1150 Graphics, for Vostro 1000
    120G 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
Genuine Windows XP Home Edition, SP2
8X DVD+/-RW with double-layer DVD+R write capability, with Cyberlink Power DVD
Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g Mini Card
53 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery, for Vostro 1000
    Microsoft Works 8.5 - English
    $529 + tax shipped!

A Vostro 1500 with a 1.6Ghz core 2 duo with the same specs runs about $100 more. A similarly equipped Inspiron runs even more so I think I got a really good deal.

I have some questions as I wait for my Aug 10th ship date. For anyone else with a 1000 (or those with knowledge of the 1000s): How is the battery life with the 6-cells? Do the 9-cells stick out the back? I went with XP b/c I hear that 2GB is a must for Vista plus I'm concerned with Vista compatibility so far. Thanks in advance for any answers.

I ordered a Vostro 1500 with the 1.6 Core 2 Duo on 7/31 and I am amazed with the price. I think this is going to be an amazing laptop. What is even more awesome is that I am already in the Boxing stage so apparently I will not have to deal with all the delays that so many on this board are having to deal with.
