I had ordered a Vostro 1500 two days ago, but since I ordered Dell because of its price I canceled it and ordered a Vostro 1400 today with the current $599 deal with some upgrades. It came out to $658 (USD) before taxes (shipping is free).

Just Pulled the trigger on a 1400- was initially frustrated dell did not offer XP, seemed silly to me but I got over it. I am also totally sick of shopping! I plan to clean install XP on day one.

Does anyone anticipate any problems with that?

Also I dont seem to get the rock bottom prices some people do. I wish posters would state what discounts they qualified for. University store, Partner company etc.

Still, I got the below system with 3yrs. warranty + 70 bucks off any one of the new accessories I will need for my desk for $1023.00

Seems like a lot of machine for that - I couldn't get a 1420 within $300 of that price.

Will probably wind up doing 2gb ram soon.

It finally came down to the D630 and the 1400. I was weary of the Quadro135m though.

Do we think the 8400GS is going to be stronger then the Q135?

I haven't seen any 1420 owners really talking about graphics in the forum?

    Now the wait - 08/02/07

If I got jipped - please chime in...but only if you can provide useful information I can use in a phone call to a rep! :D

    Thanks!

^ Sounds ok to me, I configured mine from the "smart value package" Total came to $775 including tax. It was a deal I couldn't pass up. To make it even better, when I get up this morning and check here I learn that they are now $50 less. Call Dell to cancel the order, and instead the lady offers to refund my account $55 after the computer ships. Sweet! So now it only comes to $720. Thanks Dell!

    MSL that's a sweet deal at 720!

Since this machine will become the center of my desk...replacing a very old PIII 800 desktop...I thought I would go to the T7300 to get the 4mb cache. And definately wanted 3 years, since it's a new build and product line.

^Yeah, I was quite pleased, as I had originally thought that I would have to at least spend a grand... I don't really need an extremely powerful notebook, thats what the XPS 410 is for!
