What´s the main difference between a Vostro 1400 and a Latitude D630? The 1400 is much cheaper, but comes with Bluetooth and Webcam. Is the difference in performance that great?

I placed my Dell Vostro 1400 order on Dec. 11 and no component I ordered said it was on backorder or would delay my order. I also ordered a Garmin GPS. Both say "In Production" with an estimated ship date of 12/28/07. What could the hold up be, especially for the Garmin GPS. Seems like those should just be in stock.

Is Dell closed for a week or what?

I originally wanted a red Inspiron 1720 but I was willing to give up the red to get a discount by purchasing a Vostro through my work account. I saved about $350 and got an upgraded processor, Vista Ultimate and a 3-year Warranty. (I also got a nice discount and some serious upgrades on a Precision workstation ordered at the same time for work)

I also really wanted a 7200 RPM hard drive but at the time I couldn't get it from Dell on the Vostro so I ordered one after the fact… not realizing the laptop needs a separate carrier, adaptor and screws to add the drive. Ordered the carrier and adaptor from Dell but I still didn't get the screws with the carrier. Did a little research and found the screws aren't offered online and it was a PIA to get them through customer service. I looked at all the local stores but couldn’t find them so I ordered them from an e-bay store. Once I get the screws the 7200 RPM drive will be my boot/system drive and the drive that came with the system will be a secondary storage/backup drive.

Finally… for some reason the 1 Year Free DataSafe wasn’t on the computer when I received it. I’m in the process of trying to get it… Other than that, I’m loving my new Dell :)

    Yes, please post some pictures!!
What is "Integrated Sound Blaster® Audigy™HD Software Edition" in you signature?
Do you have a different sound card than the rest of us?

I will post the PICS on or after the 3rd Jan and the integrated sound blaster is some software that help improve the sound quality over the base sound card i mean it is no replacement for external speakers but I'd say it is a noticeable improvement over the base sound card.

    Hello all,

I have been looking at the Vostro 1400 for sometime now and I think it is an awesome laptop for the price.

However, I am not sure if I can purchase one for myself as I do not have any company name to provide at time of purchase. Is it possible to purchase it without any buisness info? If anyone could shed some light on this matter, I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks,
    budd

I own a 1400, not a D630, but many of my co-workers have D630's at work. I wouldn't expect performance to be extremely different if configured with the similar specs, but the D630 does have a few extra bells and whistles like:

    1) Docking capabilities
    2) Touchpad and trackpoint mouse
    3) Hot swapable media bay (I think)
    4) Fingerprint reader option

Those are a few things that come up off the top of my head. And I believe the standard warranty on the D630 is longer. Also, personally, I think the D630 looks a tad better. But none of these justify the price difference IMO, unless you really some of the D630 only features.
