Not talking about overclocking....jeez,get your head out of the o'clocking bizzo LVR :D ,in the control panel under manage 3d settings, you have preset options for different 3d software under the global settings drop down box....just had a look but didn't have one for 3dsmax which is strange because I'm sure I've seen it for that before.

I'd still try at least one of the general ones for 3d.

NVdll display driver caused crash,a different driver or settings usually fixes it,it's only happened once though,so its not the end of the world yet;)

    Hahaha...ok ok i'm leaving the OC'ing ;)
Yeah i found the profile for 3dsmax. Maybe you have to uncheck the box that says "only show settings for applications installed on this computer" if you don't have 3dsmax. I'll just use that default settings of the 3dsmax profile. And like you said it's only happened 1 time so i'm not that worried yet. I'll be doing some pretty intensive 3d work today so i'll see if it happens again.

btw, did you try A09 yet?

You could also try to locate your Crash Dump File in your windows/minidump folder. and then use microsoft's Debugger tool(http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtools/debugging/default.mspx) (32/64 bit) to analyse it. But if the error was something about an NVdll file it has to do with something about an display-driver - as Weegie says - change some options or try a different driver might help. And also remember.. it's not that bad to get a Blue Screen - better than damaged hardware ;) (the problem though, is sometimes to locate what the cause is..).

I upgraded Bios to A09, have been running for a few hours now and it appears so far that the fan problem has been fixed. Fan just running on low speed with 22" external monitor and other devices connected.

Audio still perfect as is everything else on my M4400.

Congrats on that Doug :) same here

And yeah, the BSOD itself isn't that bad...but the fact i lost some work i was doing and the last autobackup file was also damaged is pretty annoying, more if it'll happen more often. We'll just see what today brings.
Main thing is indeed to find out what the actual cause is.

Nah,don't intend to....A02 still working perfectly for me.
Do you use any of the DCP apps ? seems anybody using security, doesn't have much choice at the moment, pretty strange how dell are bundling drivers together now for one big security suite,I reckon most of the other DCP apps are pretty naff also,so i don't have any of them installed, have a couple of bangs against devices in the device manager, but no biggie as I don't use them anyway.......a lot of people complaing about the DCP stuff though.

Good stuff Doug, glad its fixed your fan prob, seems a pretty bizzare thing to be happening anyway.

i just got my replacement power adaptor today. (the original one gave way at the blue LED, could see the wires inside the cable)

my original one was from flextronics, the replacement one is from delta. On the delta, the in line stabiliser (is that what its called?) its that cylindrical thing near the plug that goes into the laptop. well, its smaller on the delta, noticably smaller. Furthermore, it fits more tightly into the notebook's socket.

i've never heard of delta, but flextronics has quite a reputation...designing the first reference tablet pc, the iconic palms of the 90's..... wonder why the delta one is apparently, better!

oh-and the tech support lady mentioned that there have been quite a few cases of people calling about the cable detaching at the LED point..check yours to see if its giving way!

Could anyone explain me about your 2ccl screen experience?

    According to Dell:
WUXGA 2CCFL is 350 nits, 400:1 contrast ratio and 75% Color Gamut

    Thank you!
