Talked to Dell Technical support - no go - they could just tell me that I had got a Truelife screen because it's glossy..(thanks for THAT information).
Dell Custom care was more helpful, they told me they were sorry about i was getting a Glossy screen with Grey back LCD LID, when i had ordered a LCD LID with black finish and antiglare.
My Dell rep will now look into if i can get a black LID - but in that case they told me, they have to rplace the whole system.. but he also talked about some sort of compensation for not getting what i've ordered..

I don't know what to think.. - the colours really are very nice on the this machine - but i payed around 460 USD extra for a RGB LED screen - so I want to be 100 % sure i've got one.
I really don't mind if it's glossy or not.. if the RGB LED is only out in glossy - then fine with me!

The 2cffl (350nit) is brighter than the LED screen (300nit). When you know the brightness of your external monitor, you can compare the brightness... and you can watch at a complete black screen, the ccfl screen should be lighter on the top and bottom.. this are not very good methods, but at the moment I think everything points to a RGB-LED... on your pics, the colors and the screen look similar to the RGB-LED E2E screen in the M6400 (in the other thread here).

Well my keyboard back lighting just died. In an attempt to fix it I upgraded to A09 but it just doesn't work. Control point has the options to turn it on but when it's turned on there's no light. I'll have to contact dell.

The difference for the RGBLED screen on the US website is $299 - where did the $460 come from?

He didn't order on the US website.. he even doesn't live in the US ;)
In the rest of the world you can only configure the RGB-LED if you call Dell... you get it, but need to pay a lot more. I payed for the RGB-LED for the silver M6400 about 450$ aswell..

Shuldn't the RGBLED be more like 400 - 500 nit?
The backlight of the screen is VERY even (or i am just turning blind hehe) - Really it does not seem like there are more light at botton or top..
You have been much helpful - much appreciated! :)

percomp: As Introxicate said i am from Denmark ( a little country in europa where everything is expensive ehehe)
And really.. I learn the danish Dell suppert quite some lessons today - they know much less and are far less dynamic than their US counterparts.

    Just checked:
My syncmaster 172's is 270 nits - the brightness is set to 30 %, color temp is 50k and gamma is 2.4
I'll try calibrating the M4400's screen and post some more pictures.

Indeed everything point to it being the RGB LED screen. Just the hardware-id thing remains a bit odd.
I think it's funny that the people at Dell still don't have a clue about the black finish in combination with the LCD lid. With that sentence they are just describing the whole system, meaning: laptop with black finish + the lid that goes with the screen that was ordered....The Black finish bit has been the same since release and has nothing to do with the lcd lid. But ofcourse if you can get them to send you the black Latitude lid for an RGB-LED screen (don't think that exists though) and you'd rather have that, you should.
I think the only reason they mention the lid at all is that there are different lids for different screens. The WLED lid is thinner than the 2CCFL lid, they won't fit on eachother and i don't know if the lid for the WLED is the same as the RGB LED.

A good way to be certain about the screen is indeed to check a black screen with brightness at 100%. Especially the bottom part is al lot brighter, it looks like a blueish / grey bar and both left and right bottom corners are darker on normal screens....but as said, the 2CCFL doesn't come in glossy so i think you're set ;)

My apologies... I would have expected equivalent pricing. I guess I'm a little naive.
