    Hi Juke,

My new screen is the same as the old one. I did make that picture though with brightness set to 100% with a black background, that will show the maximum light bleed possible. I would get the same results with the new screen but to be honest i doesn't bother me that much anymore. I've calibrated my screen with a Pantone Huey Pro and typically use the screen with brightness at 50%...the colours are actually very good now that it's calibrated and 50% is more then enough. The 2CCFL screens are pretty much all the same but it bothers some people more then others....quite satisfied in the end actually.

It's going to be pretty hard for me to make an outdoor picture with a lamp behind me and i won't be using it outdoors soon anyway because it's just as cold here as in Germany ;)

@GordonHo: Thanks. Seems to me it will be definitely a glare display. Hope that you'll be happy with it though.

@LPTP-LVR: You're funny. I was talking about a pic shot with background-lamp indoors OR a pic shot outdoors, of course, not the combination:eek:. But your description is enough for me though. Don't want you to come down with a cold:D.

    @madengineer: I will for sure;).

A few days ago I burned a dvd with some files with Nero 8.
Today I tried the same thing but made 4 coasters so far.
I used the same dvds and I believe the only thing that has changed is that I am using Bios a09 now.
I have plugged in an external usb burner and it's workiing perfectly.

I tried burning using UltraISO and it gave me the same error.
Both programs start the Burn process like all is well and about 30 seconds into the burn I get an error message about the dvd type being illegal.
I am using tdk dvd-r single layer 1-16x.
If anyone has any ideas I would be glad to hear them

OK, I went back to Bios v A06 and the dvds are burning ok now. Hope this info helps others.

@Thomas N: sorry 'bout font your troubles. I've got .otf and .ttf fonts installed and have had no issue (other than installing Linotype's Font Explorer X and having it move all my fonts and then crap out on me; luckily I made a back up of my font folder before installing the awful little program).

You should call up that Dell rep and tell him to pull his head from his kiester. Let him know Dell ships their computers with .oft files (ACaslonPro, AGaramondPro, etc...)

[edit] Just realized... those .oft fonts probably installed with my CS3 install (I was thinking I hadn't installed any fonts)... but still, they function without issue.

kidjedi......the font thing was really weird. And it does not seem to make sense that it is related to the video card driver, especially if others have not had an issue. But, I tried 3 ways to install the otf and postscript fonts and they would not install, MainType, a font management program would not install them either. TTF fonts would install. Then I loaded the video card driver as stated in my other post and upon reboot, all was as it should be with the fonts.

On a side note though, I had my conversation with Dell on Wednesday before the Thanksgiving holiday, and on Friday a local repair tech had called ready to replace the motherboard Friday at noon. So they are on-the-ball with the repairs, although not needed. I declined to have the tech replace the motherboard. The Tech that called was very interested in the story of the fonts and the http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/ website. We had quite a chat on the phone.

I should have gotten his contact info and tried to milk him to find out any info, part numbers or whatnot to identify the RGB LED displays, or if there is some top secret utility that would show more display hardware data.

    hi all

just had a weird message on my m4400 when i started it up from hibernation. I had it downloading overnight and set it to hibernate when downloads completed (roughly had 2-3hours left to download). Upon starting up the m4400 in the morning i got a black screen and a audio beep with a message saying that windows had to end as the system overheated??! i started up and downloaded speedfan and the gpu seems stay at 49-52c, and the CPUs at 58-60c so its not too hot.
Im using photoshop and maxathon so the use is not too intensive. my questions are, has any other m4400 owners had this happen and could anyone recommend a suitable fitting laptop cooler for the M4400? one preferably with two or more USB ports:) Cheers in advance to any help.

if you double click on the sound icon on the right of your taskbar,
go to advanced options and disable the first option,
    - it actually disables the laptop's internal speakers,
    - but makes the sound perfect with full bass when you use external speakers (via the earphone jack). The internal speakers are not used in this case anyway.

I thought i'd share this trick with people that are frustrated with sound quality.

If it has been said somewhere in this forum before, i apologise for repeating.

it dosent have extra USB ports, but its very slim and light, the dell coolslice attaches on to the docking port connectors and attach points. It basically becomes part of the laptop

    http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/...etail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=bsd&cs=04&sku=311-9104

other than that, you can get a lot of cheap OEM ones off ebay, they all work pretty much the same. I read somewhere elevating the notebook contributes to 70% or more of the additional cooling, the extra fans and stuff dont really do much more. i think it may have been toms hardware or anandtech that did a notebook cooler shootout using performance gaming laptops and they came to that conclusion.
